Pepper prices today, November 18, 2024, in the domestic market increased slightly in some key localities, trading from 138,500 - 140,000 VND/kg.
Specifically, pepper price today in Gia Lai is at 139,000 VND/kg.
Pepper prices today in the provinces of Dong Nai (138,500 VND/kg); Dak Lak (139,500 VND/kg); Dak Nong (140,000 VND/kg); Ba Ria - Vung Tau (139,000 VND/kg) and Binh Phuoc (139,000 VND/kg).
Thus, continuing yesterday's upward trend, domestic pepper prices today increased slightly in most key growing areas, increasing by 500 - 1,000 VND/kg. The highest pepper price is at 140,000 VND/kg.
The market scenario last week was quite similar to previous weeks when pepper prices had alternating sessions of decline and recovery. The market was under pressure from business cash flow shifting to coffee and the strengthening USD, but limited supply while the harvest was still a few months away contributed to supporting the market.
According to many farmers in Dak Lak, pepper is a sensitive plant that is easily affected by erratic weather. This year, prolonged drought, hot and dry weather and low humidity are not favorable for pepper to flower, pollinate and set fruit.
Mr. Nguyen Van Quy in Ea Bhok commune, Cu Kuin district, Dak Lak province, has more than 5 sao of pepper intercropped in his coffee garden. He said that this year the weather is not favorable for pepper growers, causing many pepper spikes to be damaged by locusts, and some spikes in the garden only bear one fruit.
According to Mr. Nguyen Huy Than, Cu Hue commune, Ea Kar district, Dak Lak province, the pepper plant started to grow buds and then bloomed, but it rained a lot, making it impossible for the pepper to pollinate, leading to very short and sparse flower splits.
Although pepper prices are currently high, causing farmers to feel anxious about the reduced pepper yield, according to scientists, in order for pepper to grow sustainably, farmers need to follow appropriate fertilization procedures to help the plants stay healthy. At the same time, pepper is grown on live poles to reduce the adverse effects of the weather, helping to maintain sustainable production over the years.
At the end of the most recent trading session, the International Pepper Community (IPC) listed the price of Lampung black pepper (Indonesia) at 6,470 USD/ton, down 0.09%; the price of Brazilian black pepper ASTA 570 at 6,000 USD/ton; the price of Kuching black pepper (Malaysia) ASTA at 8,400 USD/ton.
Muntok white pepper price is 9,055 USD/ton, down 0.09%; Malaysian ASTA white pepper price is at 10,500 USD/ton.
Vietnam black pepper price is traded at 6,200 USD/ton for 500 g/l; 550 g/l at 6,500 USD/ton; white pepper price at 9,400 USD/ton. IPC continues to reduce pepper prices in Indonesia.
The International Pepper Community assessed that the pepper market continued to have mixed reactions this week. Only domestic black pepper from Sri Lanka was reported to increase. Domestic and international prices for Indian pepper recorded a decrease.
According to Harris Spice, the price trend has been slightly down since the beginning of the month. Buyers continue to be cautious, waiting for clearer information on the production situation in both Vietnam and Brazil for the upcoming crop year.
