In the colorful cultural picture in Dak Nong, in addition to the traditional beauty of local ethnic minorities, cultural values from ethnic minorities in the North are not only preserved but also blended, contributing to enriching the cultural treasure of ethnic minorities in the province.
Like other ethnic groups, the ethnic groups in the North living in Dak Nong province such as Tay, Nung, Mong, Dao, Muong, Thai... have a very rich and diverse traditional culture with its own unique characteristics.
According to statistics, the number of ethnic minorities from the North currently residing in Dak Nong accounts for about 20% of the population. Along with contributing to the construction of the new homeland in many fields, ethnic minorities from the North have brought to Dak Nong many unique traditional cultural features such as festivals, performing arts, culinary arts and handicrafts...
When coming to their second homeland in Dak Nong, many Thai ethnic people in Nam Xuan commune, Krong No district are always helped by local authorities to preserve and promote traditional cultural beauty.
For many years, the small house of Mrs. Lang Thi Minh in Dak Thanh village has become a familiar meeting place for the Thai folk art club. Without speakers or stage, in colorful costumes, on weekend evenings, the "farmer artists" are absorbed in singing Khap after days of hard work in the fields.
Ms. Lang Thi Minh shared: “For us Thai people, Khap melodies are like daily food and drink. Since I was little, I followed my mother to the fields and saw the women singing everywhere, so I learned to follow them. When I grew up, I went to learn singing from the men in the village. Just like that, it has seeped into my skin and heart.”
To preserve traditional culture, in recent years, Nam Xuan commune has always focused on building and supporting the development of folk art clubs, groups and teams.
Up to now, the whole commune has 6 clubs and art teams. The members are people of different ages but share the same interests, passion for folk songs and pass them on to the younger generation.
According to Mr. Vi Van Truong, Vice Chairman of Nam Xuan Commune People's Committee, the local government always promotes propaganda work so that each person is aware of preserving ethnic culture and raising the responsibility of each citizen. Every year, Nam Xuan Commune regularly organizes competitions and performances, recreating cultural festivals of ethnic groups, including the Thai ethnic group. Through competitions and performances, the Thai people have contributed to enriching the cultural values of the locality.
In Dak Glong district, over the past 20 years, when living and working in their second homeland Dak Nong, Mong ethnic people have always preserved the traditional cultural beauty, which has been actively promoted and created through generations.
The spiritual life of the Mong people in Dak Nong is also very rich, expressed through customs, beliefs about heaven and earth, people and all things. Therefore, on holidays and Tet, after a harvest season, descendants will prepare offerings to invite their ancestors to enjoy with their descendants. Worshiping ancestors is both to repay their gratitude and to pray for their ancestors to protect and bless their descendants to always be healthy, for plants and animals to grow.
The Mong people also have a treasure trove of poetry such as myths, fairy tales, folk songs, proverbs, narrative poems, epics... Mong folk songs also have many types such as love songs, ritual folk songs... In addition, the Mong people in the province also have 3 large markets such as: Cu K'nia commune market, Cu Jut district; Dak R'mang market, Dak Som market, Dak Glong district.
Almost every item is available at the market, but the most popular are products imbued with traditional culture, customs, and production practices of the people such as costumes, shoes, and typical dishes such as thang co, sticky rice, men men, etc. All of these create a very unique cultural space for the market in Dak Nong.
Not only the Thai ethnic group in Nam Xuan commune, Krong No district or the Mong ethnic group in Dak Glong district, many other ethnic minorities in the North such as Tay, Nung, Dao, Cao Lan... still preserve many traditional cultural values such as the Cap sac ceremony, the crop praying ceremony of the Dao people; Long Tong festival of the Tay, Nung people...
Folk music and traditional art forms such as then singing, luong singing of the Tay people; khuc xua, khuc let of the Thai people have become an important part of the spiritual and entertainment life of the people. The musical melodies with the đàn tính, khen lá or traditional dances are not only the heritage of the past but also the inspiration for many modern artistic activities.
In Dak Nong, the traditional festivals of the Northern ethnic minorities regularly organized have helped connect the people in the region and create cultural exchanges. Events such as the ethnic cultural festival, Then singing - Tinh lute festival... have become indispensable activities, attracting people and tourists from everywhere.
Currently, Dak Nong authorities at all levels are focusing on preserving and maintaining the advanced Vietnamese culture imbued with national identity in the spirit of Resolution 5 of the 8th Central Committee of the Party.
In order to preserve and promote the fine cultural identity of ethnic minorities in the province in general, and ethnic minorities in the North in particular, in recent times, authorities at all levels and relevant sectors of Dak Nong province have implemented many synchronous solutions to preserve and promote such as: Collecting and preserving the cultural values of ethnic groups in the form of recording, filming, audio recording, photography, collecting original artifacts... for long-term preservation in provincial museums and libraries.
The province encourages the collection, compilation, translation, statistics, classification, circulation, exchange, and cultural exchange with friends in the region and the whole country. Cultural and artistic activities for the community are regularly organized. In particular, the focus is on exploiting folk materials; restoring some traditional festivals, folk songs, folk dances, folk games, festivals...
In addition, authorities at all levels and functional sectors focus on promoting the role of prestigious people in the community such as village chiefs, village elders, folk artisans, clan leaders, shamans, etc. This group plays a role in convincing individuals and communities to clearly see the harmful effects of backward and outdated customs and practices that hinder development, such as incestuous marriage, early marriage, unplanned births, etc., to gradually eliminate them. They also encourage people to effectively carry out the movement of the whole people uniting to build a cultural life, effectively carry out the campaign to build a cultural and civilized lifestyle, and build a new life of prosperity and happiness.
According to Mr. K'Bay, Vice Chairman of Dak Som Commune People's Committee, Dak Glong District, a commune with a large population of Mong ethnic people, in recent times, authorities at all levels have always paid attention to and created conditions for ethnic people to promote their fine cultural identities. When the Mong community in Dak Som commune had the idea of building a Community Cultural Tourism Village, the commune was ready to support and create conditions for people to work to preserve, promote and introduce their fine traditional culture to tourists. At the same time, it creates jobs, increases income for people, and contributes to promoting the development of the regional economy...
According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dak Nong province, currently, there are 28 traditional festivals of ethnic minorities in the province that have been restored and organized, of which more than half are cultural festivals of ethnic groups in the North.
