According to Mr. Nguyen Duc Hien, Deputy Head of the Central Economic Commission: Logistics is considered the backbone of the supply chain, so the requirement for digital transformation in the logistics industry is not outside the general trend of the entire economy. In Vietnam, the role of digital transformation in logistics activities is increasingly receiving attention from the Party and the State.
According to the Red River Delta Regional Planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, which was just announced in May 2024, the Red River Delta is a particularly important strategic area, a leading development driving force, playing a leading role in the process of restructuring the economy and transforming the country's growth model to create a breakthrough for rapid and sustainable development. In particular, Hai Phong is a locality with a particularly important position in the Red River Delta with more than 1,000 logistics enterprises. Digital transformation of logistics not only creates development for this field in Hai Phong, but is also the driving force, the connecting thread that leads to the development of the logistics industry and the economy of the entire Red River Delta.
In 2023, according to the latest Emerging Markets Index 2023 ranking by transportation and logistics service provider Agility, Vietnam has entered the top 10 out of 50 emerging logistics markets in the world. In terms of international logistics opportunities, Vietnam ranked 4th in the world and is considered a country with the leading logistics development potential in Southeast Asia. Statistics from the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) show that Vietnam's fleet has increased from 4th in 2019 to 3rd in the ASEAN region and 22nd in the world in 2022 (in 2019, Vietnam's fleet ranked 30th).
Only 04% of logistics enterprises have digital transformation to level 6
According to Deputy Head of the Central Economic Commission Nguyen Duc Hien, the Red River Delta is a potential and attractive market for the development of the logistics industry. This is considered the northern gateway of our country and ASEAN in connecting economic and trade development with China - the largest market in the world and vice versa. Compared to other economic regions in the country, the region has the most synchronous and best transport infrastructure system in the country with all 5 modes of transport and three economic corridors passing through. Therefore, the logistics industry of the region has more potential and opportunities for further development in the coming years.
Speaking at the Forum, Vice Chairman of Hai Phong City People's Committee Nguyen Duc Tho said that Hai Phong has all the necessary elements to become one of the important logistics hubs, a multimodal distribution and transit center connecting the Northern Key Economic Zone with the whole country, the region and the world. Hai Phong is an important traffic and exchange hub of Vietnam and the world, with a synchronous traffic infrastructure system, with 5 convenient types of transportation connecting inter-provincial, inter-regional and to countries around the world.
According to the survey in the 2023 Logistics Report of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, 90.5% of logistics service enterprises participating in the survey are still in the digitalization stage, including level 1 of computerization and level 2 of connection.
