Promoting circular economy
According to the Provincial People's Committee, in recent times, the province has proactively developed and promptly and effectively implemented the orientations, tasks and solutions in the Government's resolutions, programs and action plans on green growth.
Thereby, Vinh Long province has clearly identified the viewpoint and goals of green economic development and the circular economic model in the industrial and agricultural development plan.
The province is determined to promote economic restructuring associated with growth model innovation, increase labor productivity and efficiency based on the strong application of science and technology, innovation, digital transformation, green transformation, and circular economy.
At the same time, improve the competitiveness and economic efficiency of the agricultural sector by shifting from agricultural production thinking to agricultural economic thinking to create a value chain for agricultural products and added value many times higher than the added value from increased output...
The province has also integrated environmental protection and natural disaster prevention into programs and plans for energy development, socio-economic development, etc.
Implement policies to encourage and support businesses to apply green technologies, contributing to promoting the building of an environmentally friendly business ecosystem; associated with solutions to minimize the negative impacts of climate change and environmental pollution on production and business activities.
Encourage businesses to apply cleaner production to save resources and limit environmental pollution.
According to Mr. Tran Minh Khoi - Head of the Provincial Industrial Parks Management Board, attracting investment projects to industrial parks has been and will be prioritized in calling for and attracting investment in the fields of supporting industries, renewable energy, high-tech application industries, manufacturing of components, machinery, specialized equipment for agricultural production, preservation, processing of agricultural products, green, clean, environmentally friendly technology, processing industry, etc.
Green economy - inevitable trend

According to Ms. Agnes - General Manager of Leader Garment Company Limited (Vietnam), the company currently has 2 factories with more than 3,000 workers. At the same time, the construction of factory 3 has started with the need for about 1,600 workers.
This is a “Green Factory” construction project according to LEED standards, contributing to the province’s green production criteria, while also meeting the needs of high-end orders that require more standards, including environmental protection standards.
Meanwhile, according to Mr. Nguyen Tuong Nam - Chairman of the Provincial Business Association, currently, the trend of developing green economy and circular economy is being widely recognized and implemented, which is an inevitable trend. However, in the province, in general, circular economy has not been implemented in the right sense.
With the characteristics of small and medium enterprises, linear exploitation, unconnected development, low technology, not many innovative applications to enhance the value chain, limited resources...
With the trend of green and sustainable production, according to Mr. Nam, the above enterprises need to pay attention to developing and improving the agricultural value chain, deep processing, organic farming, reusing raw materials for organic fertilizer production; traditional industries and craft villages need to be encouraged to create more new products, using energy economically.
Since 2012, the Government has issued Decision No. 1393/QD-TTg approving the National Strategy on Green Growth for the 2011-2020 period and vision to 2050. This is the first comprehensive national strategy on green economic development in Vietnam. The general goal is to move towards a low-carbon economy, enriching natural capital to become the main trend in sustainable economic development; reducing emissions and increasing the ability to absorb greenhouse gases gradually become mandatory indicators in socio-economic development.
On a long-term basis, businesses need to have a strategy to develop applied biotechnology, develop an agricultural chain that utilizes biomass and renewable energy... to proactively grasp scientific and technological advances to transform into a circular economy and develop sustainably.
“At the same time, the province needs to orient sustainable development, in which promoting green economic development and digital economy must have the participation and support from the budget.
Enterprises also need to research and invest in green production to increase product value as well as contribute to environmental protection in the general development trend of the times," Mr. Nam shared.
