Masan Group suffered heavy losses due to storm Yagi, but still gave thousands of relief gifts to people in the flooded areas of Lao Cai.

On September 14, Tuoi Tre newspaper reporters and Giao hang tiet kiem staff transported more than 9 tons of relief goods from Masan Group Joint Stock Company to the flooded area of Bao Yen (Lao Cai).

The gift set includes 1,000 gifts, hundreds of boxes of fresh porridge, sausages, fish sauce, soy sauce, necessities... These are both essential goods and can be preserved for a long time. The Saving Delivery Unit volunteered to transport these goods through dozens of landslides on the way to the people.

Masan Group representative said that the recent storm No. 3 also caused heavy damage to this enterprise. Preliminary statistics show that nearly 700 facilities in the North of the Winmart supermarket and store system were damaged. Goods were flooded, freezers and computers were flooded. Even long-term power outages caused a lot of food in refrigerators and cold storage to spoil. In the agricultural sector, farms in the WinEco chain were almost completely lost. Meatlife meat factory clusters were isolated.

However, Masan still called on its staff to contribute and support people affected by storms and floods. Practical gifts were promptly delivered to the people.

Mr. Doan Xuan Hung - Chairman of the Fatherland Front Committee of Bao Yen district - said that today (September 14) we don't have to take a boat to get to the commune. However, the roads are still very difficult. We can only go by motorbike or 4WD pickup truck.

After storm number 3 (typhoon Yagi), Bao Yen district suffered unprecedented damage. There were 60 deaths, 30 injured, 43 unidentified. Roads and information were paralyzed, and floods also destroyed more than 4,100 houses.

Hundreds of relief teams come here, always wanting to go to the places, deliver directly and record the stories of the people. However, the roads are still potentially dangerous, there are places where there are too many teams, and there are places where people are in dire need but not enough.

Mr. Hung said that the Relief Committee does not dare accept foods with short shelf lives such as bread, banh chung, fresh food... Essential foods that can be preserved for a long time like the Masan fruit gift are very valuable.

"We receive and set aside, tomorrow based on the needs of the people, we will coordinate the transport vehicle to deliver to the people" - Mr. Hung said.

Mr. Dang Van Duong, in village 3, Son Thuong commune, Bao Yen district (Lao Cai) tried to wade through the mud to the district center hoping to receive more relief packages of instant noodles. His plastic boots were covered in red mud up to the shins, and his clothes were covered in mud.

Mr. Duong was guided to the commune, where they received the goods based on the specific needs and circumstances of the people. An officer saw the poor old man and asked another relief group for two cartons of bottled water.

"Many relief groups have come to the commune, but there are too many people. The commune gives priority to households that have lost their homes, have no food, no clothes, other households get less. This morning I got 8 packs of instant noodles. There are still many people in the house, in a few days there will be nothing to eat..." - Mr. Duong said.

Behind Mr. Duong's house is a high hill. A few days ago, a whole hill collapsed, leaving only a few steps away from the house's pillars. Mr. Duong and nearly a hundred other households in the village ran to sleep at the commune's cultural house. During the day, they went to work and kept watch on the hill, running whenever they saw treetops moving, heard the sound of trees breaking, or falling soil. At night, they slept at the commune's cultural house.

Receiving the gift from Masan, which included instant noodles, fresh porridge, sausages, necessities... the experienced farmer trembled with gratitude, unable to speak. Looking at the image of a miserable man staggering back to his village on his old motorbike, everyone hoped that the flood would pass quickly so that the people would be less miserable.
