National Assembly supervision delegation works with Lao Cai province

At the meeting, the representative of the Provincial People's Committee reported on the results of implementing policies and laws on population in the period of 2018 - 2024. Accordingly, Lao Cai has issued directive documents, promoted policy communication, and shifted the focus from family planning to population and development. As a result, a number of results have been achieved such as: stable population growth; the proportion of working-age population has increased, the period of 2018 - 2024 is in the "golden" population period of Lao Cai; reproductive health care, early marriage, and consanguineous marriage have received attention.

In addition, the health system has been improved with 151 commune health stations, of which 147 stations meet national standards. The province has invested over 1,900 billion VND in 24 projects to build and renovate health facilities from commune to provincial levels. The grassroots health workforce has been supplemented, with the ratio of doctors reaching 14.5 doctors per 10,000 people.

Comrade Hoang Quoc Khanh, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee spoke at the meeting.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Hoang Quoc Khanh, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, emphasized that Lao Cai will continue to effectively implement the Central Government's policies to improve the quality of population and health care for people, especially in remote areas. Lao Cai province also proposed that the Central Government continue to pay attention to allocating resources to invest in developing the grassroots health network, pay attention to the regime and policies for health workers working in disadvantaged areas; and remove obstacles in health insurance settlement.

Comrade Nguyen Hoang Mai, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee on Culture and Social Affairs, spoke at the meeting.

Appreciating the efforts and initiative of Lao Cai in implementing population and primary health care policies, comrade Nguyen Hoang Mai suggested that the province continue to review resource problems, strengthen solutions to control birth rates, reduce gender imbalance at birth; at the same time, pay more attention to the primary health care model, meeting the requirements of sustainable population development.
