Forty-five years ago, Chilean Senate President Salvador Allende visited Vietnam, while our people were going through a fierce war. During this visit, he met President Ho Chi Minh. That historic meeting laid the foundation for the friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

The Republic of Chile was the first South American country to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam in 1971. Over the past 50 years, despite the geographical distance (17,845 km), the solidarity and friendship between the two peoples and countries has always been maintained and nurtured.
The statue of President Ho Chi Minh located in the park named after him in the Herminda de la Victoria neighborhood, Cerra Navia district, was built in 1969 to express the solidarity and support of the Chilean people for the national liberation struggle of the Vietnamese people.

Speaking at the reception of the Cerro Navia District Chief and in front of a large number of local people next to the statue of Uncle Ho, Comrade Nguyen Van Thong - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee said: In March 2023, during the program of visiting and working in Vietnam, Ms. Michelle Bachelet Jeria - Former President of Chile met with the leaders of Nghe An province. The former President of Chile said that Chile is implementing the Ho Chi Minh Space Library project in Cerro Navia district, Santiago capital. Based on the proposal of the Vietnamese Embassy in the Republic of Chile, the leaders of Nghe An province decided that the province will contribute to this special meaningful project.
Participating in the Ho Chi Minh Space Library project in Cerro Navia district, Santiago capital is an opportunity to promote comprehensive cooperation between Nghe An and Santiago, contributing with the two countries to realize the common goals of the international community for peace and development.
