A Ngo is one of the five border communes of Dakrong district with 95% of households being ethnic minorities. With the goal of reducing the average annual poverty rate by over 5%, the locality has been promoting the implementation of the national target program on sustainable poverty reduction, building a better socio-economic life in the villages. In that movement, many families have risen out of poverty and gradually become well-off, a typical example of which is the family of Mr. La Lay Hung (42 years old) in Ky Neh village.

Previously, Mr. Hung's family was a poor household, living only on rice and cassava cultivation. Since 2010, his family has boldly borrowed capital from the Dakrong District Social Policy Bank to raise fish and grow cajuput.

Thanks to his diligence, hard work, and ability to research and apply good practices, Mr. Hung’s model has been effective, gradually helping his family earn income. Thanks to that, by 2012, Mr. Hung’s family escaped poverty.

Mr. Hung shared: “Life is poor, food and clothing are not enough, children lack education, so I am determined to escape poverty, I cannot be a poor household forever. After that, thanks to access to preferential loans, production has many advantages, so my family has escaped poverty sustainably for several years, I am very happy”.

After many years of building an economic model, Mr. Hung's family now has more than 15 hectares of yellow cajuput trees, 4 ponds for raising grass carp and common carp, 0.5 hectares of agarwood trees, of which, in 2023, he exploited 7 hectares of cajuput trees, earning a profit of about 300 million VND...

For 0.5 hectares of Agarwood, he boldly cooperated with a company in Quang Ngai province to sell, expecting to earn high income when the tree has essential oil and is harvested. Mr. Hung's family is considered one of three typical examples in A Ngo commune in terms of economic development.

Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of A Ngo Commune, Ho Van Lap, commented: "In the past time, thanks to regularly participating in training courses on cultivation and animal husbandry, Mr. Hung's family has effectively applied them to production. After that, his family continued to borrow more capital to dig more fish ponds and plant more forests. Currently, Mr. Hung's family has ensured their economic situation, been able to send their children to school, and their quality of life has improved."

According to Mr. Lap, Mr. Hung's family is one of the typical and admirable nuclei for their efforts to overcome difficulties and determination to escape poverty legitimately with a suitable economic model right in their village.

Examples like Mr. Hung's family will be a source of inspiration, spreading the spirit and will to develop the economy to escape poverty, gradually enrich the community and contribute to promoting the local socio-economic development and prosperity.

Thanks to perseverance, efforts to overcome difficulties, and effective use of borrowed capital, Mr. Hung's family now has a relatively stable and sustainable source of income, thereby creating a prosperous and happy family life.

With his efforts, determination to escape poverty and the results achieved, Mr. Hung was honored to receive a certificate of merit from the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee for his many achievements in the movement "Farmers compete in production, good business, solidarity to help each other get rich and sustainably reduce poverty in the period 2021-2023".
