DIFFERENTIATION OF MATH QUESTIONS AFFECTS STANDARD SCORES

On the contrary, in math, if in 2022 there were 190 students who scored 10, this year there are only 121 students with the maximum score. According to Mr. Hoang Du, the number of students who scored 10 in math may have decreased due to the following reasons: Students lost points for practical math questions, in which they did not solve them in detail but used a calculator, so they lost 0.25 points. In addition, this year's math questions were assessed as being differentiated, good and interesting. Only students with truly good learning ability can solve question number 7 and part c of lesson 8 of geometry to get full marks.
Similarly, teacher Dang Huu Tri, Nguyen Du Secondary School (District 1), said that with this year's math exam, TS will easily achieve 6 points; but to achieve 8 points or more, they must demonstrate thinking ability and solid knowledge. The differentiation of math questions also affects the fluctuation of the standard score between school groups.
Time to submit appeal application from June 21 to 11am June 23
After announcing the 10th grade exam scores, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training also announced that if students have a need, they can submit a request to review their exam at the secondary school where they studied 9th grade, from today (June 21) to 11:00 a.m. on June 23.
Teachers also advise parents and students to stay calm and seriously re-evaluate whether their results are true to their abilities. If they feel that their test scores are incorrect, they can file a request for review, which is the right of every student.
On June 24, the Department of Education and Training of the city announced the benchmark scores for specialized schools, integrated classes, and direct admission students. On July 10, the Department will announce the benchmark scores for regular grade 10 of public high schools.
Also with this year's exam results, a leader of the Department of Education and Training commented that the score distribution of the 10th grade exam subjects did not change much compared to previous years. Accordingly, the math exam had nearly 55% of students scoring above average, the score distribution was concentrated at 5 - 7 points. The number of 10 points was less than last year.
In foreign languages, about 32% of the exams scored excellent, the highest among the three exams. The number of exams scoring 10 was 2.2% higher than last year. In literature, about 90% of the exams scored above average, of which more than 12% scored excellent.
Candidates complete procedures to take the math exam for the 10th grade entrance exam. This year's math exam is considered to be differentiated, good and interesting.

Regarding the 10th grade exam results this year, Mr. Huynh Thanh Phu, Principal of Bui Thi Xuan High School (District 1), commented that this year's score distribution is quite positive, especially in English.
Also from the results of the 3-subject exam scores of 96,000 candidates, according to the 10th grade admission score which is the total score of 3 subjects, there are 1,012 candidates with a total score of 3 subjects from 27 or higher; 7,267 candidates with a score of 25 or higher; 11,955 candidates with a score of 24 or higher; 17,401 candidates with a score of 23 or higher; 35,986 candidates with a score of 20 or higher. And 67,591 candidates with a score of 15 or higher...
Therefore, according to Mr. Phu, it is possible to predict that the 10th grade benchmark scores will fluctuate in an upward direction. In addition, the benchmark scores will also be more clearly differentiated. The top schools will have benchmark scores of 23 or higher, and there will be no phenomenon of students with scores below 10 points being admitted. Specifically, Mr. Phu predicts that the top schools may increase by 0.5 - 1 point and the lower schools may increase by 0.25 - 0.5 points. Some schools in the bottom group may stabilize the entrance score as last year. Mr. Phu gives the predicted benchmark score of Bui Thi Xuan High School (District 1) as 23 points (an increase of 0.75 points) and Nguyen Du High School (District 10) as 22.25 (an increase of 1 point).
Foreign language score increased nearly 5 times
According to the 10th grade exam score data of Ho Chi Minh City, there are 121 scores of 10 in math, 2,117 scores of 10 in foreign languages, but literature has no maximum score and the highest score of this subject is 9.25.
Specifically, in the literature subject, 27 students scored 9.25 points, 272 students scored 9. The number of exams with a score of 8.75 was 884 students. In the math subject, 121 students scored 10 points and 122 students scored 9.75 points; 749 students scored 9.5 points. In the foreign language subject, 2,117 students scored the maximum score, 3,016 students scored 9.75 points.
In literature, 11,362 students scored below 5 points. Of these, 32 students scored below 1 point (15 students scored 0.5 points; 3 students scored 0.25 points; 8 students scored 0 points).
In math, 44,126 students scored below 5 points. Of these, 809 students scored below 1 point (165 students scored 0 points; 134 students scored 0.25 points).
In foreign languages, 30,999 students scored below 5. Of these, 9 students scored 0; 1 student scored 0.25; and 8 students scored 0.5. This is also the subject with the fewest students scoring below 1 point (26 students). The number of students scoring the maximum score in this subject increased 4.5 times compared to 2022 (468 students scored 10 points last year, while this year it was 2,117).
Similarly, teacher Dang Hoang Du also commented on the fluctuation of admission scores at top schools. Teacher Du analyzed that the math exam is differentiated, so really good students will demonstrate their abilities, plus the English exam scores are not difficult, so the number of students registering for top schools will achieve high results. Therefore, admission scores at schools such as Nguyen Thuong Hien High School (Tan Binh District), Gia Dinh (Binh Thanh District), Nguyen Thi Minh Khai (District 3), Bui Thi Xuan (District 1), Tran Phu (Tan Phu District), Mac Dinh Chi (District 6), Phu Nhuan (Phu Nhuan District) ... can increase by about 1 point.
Mr. Cao Duc Khoa, Principal of Huynh Khuong Ninh Secondary School (District 1), predicted that the schools in the top 2 may also be affected. According to him, when the average exam scores of excellent students increase, the top standard scores increase, so when they do not pass the first choice, these students will be considered for admission in the second choice. Therefore, the top 2 schools such as Marie Curie High School (District 3), Thu Duc (Thu Duc City), Tran Khai Nguyen, Hung Vuong (District 5), Luong The Vinh (District 1), Vo Thi Sau (Binh Thanh District) ... may also increase accordingly.
