Gia Lai, Ca Mau, and Vanh Long are the only three localities in the country that organize admission to grade 10 in the 2025-2026 school year by examination.
As of March 3, 63 provinces and cities across the country have announced their plans for the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year. In addition to the two compulsory subjects: Literature and Math, most provinces and cities choose the third subject, English. Only Ha Giang and Binh Thuan choose History - Geography.

The 10th grade exam for the 2025-2026 school year is the first year of enrollment under the new general education program. According to the regulations on enrollment in junior high school and high school issued by the Ministry of Education and Training (effective from February 14), there are 3 methods of enrollment in grade 10: entrance exam, selection, or a combination of entrance exam and selection. The selection of the enrollment method is under the authority of the locality.
With the entrance exam method, the Ministry of Education and Training stipulates that there will be 3 exams, including: Math, Literature and a third exam or test selected by the Department of Education and Training. The third exam is selected from the subjects that are evaluated by scores in the general education program at the secondary level, ensuring that the same exam is not selected for more than 3 consecutive years.
For high schools under the Ministry of Education and Training, universities have their own entrance exams, the third exam subject or combined exam chosen by the managing unit.
