On the eve of the Lunar New Year (January 28), Captain Hoang Ngoc Minh - Chief of Vinh Thai Commune Police (Vinh Linh District, Quang Tri) - said that Vinh Thai Commune received more than 100 million VND in "lucky money" for Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa (55 years old, residing in Tan Mach Village, Vinh Thai Commune) from many kind-hearted strangers.

The heartwarming action at the beginning of the year of the Snake 2025 came from the difficult situation of Ms. Hoa's family and the efforts of the Vinh Thai commune police to find the person who lost 1.5 million VND.

Previously, on the afternoon of January 27 (December 28, Giap Thin year), Ms. Le Thi Thanh Thuy (42 years old, resident of Tan Mach village) picked up 1.5 million VND while going from Than Mach village to Thu Luat village.

The money was wrapped in a piece of torn student notebook paper, with two scribbled lines of notes about the Tet market, including: "bananas + areca nuts, betel leaves, vegetables + 10kg of sticky rice".

Feeling that the above amount of money may not be large for many people but is a warm Tet for the person who lost it, Vinh Thai commune police tried to find the person who lost it.

On the night of January 27, Vinh Thai commune police went to Nguyen Thi Hoa's house and determined that she was the person who lost the money, so they returned it. Ms. Hoa said she went to buy candy and then went to burn incense, and lost the money. She also produced a notebook that matched exactly with the lost paper.

"When we arrived, we saw our neighbors decorated with flags, lanterns, and bright flashing lights to prepare for the moment of New Year's Eve, welcoming the old year and the new year, but the house we entered was completely the opposite.

In the house, there was an elderly person lying on the floor (due to a congenital disability, unable to lie on a high bed, not ensuring safety) in the cold of nearly 14 degrees Celsius, a small child in grade 3-4 (her grandchild who came to celebrate Tet with her), and Ms. Hoa with a haggard appearance, and an optimistic smile," said the leader of Vinh Thai commune police.

When the video of Ms. Hoa's situation was posted on social media by the commune police, without anyone telling them, everyone shared the same sentiment, donating some to the account of the head of Vinh Thai commune police.

By New Year's Eve, the amount of money Vinh Thai commune received was more than 100 million VND. Vinh Thai commune police will publicize the list of donors after the bank reopens.
