The 10th grade Literature exam in Ho Chi Minh City with the topic "Letting thoughts come out in words..." was praised by many teachers for being creative and giving students room to demonstrate their writing skills.

About 96,000 candidates taking the 10th grade entrance exam at public schools in Ho Chi Minh City completed the Literature exam on the morning of June 6.

The exam consists of three parts: Reading Comprehension, Social Essay, and Literary Essay. The main theme of the exam is "Letting thoughts speak...", requiring candidates to read, understand, and express their thoughts on this topic.

Many teachers highly appreciate the creativity, saying that the exam gives students plenty of room to demonstrate their abilities and writing skills.

Mr. Ho Tan Nguyen Minh, Head of Literature Group, Luong Van Chanh High School, Phu Yen, assessed the texts selected as material for the topic very deeply. The way of asking the Social Argumentation and Literary Argumentation questions does not force students to make judgments but only gives suggestions and instructions, from which students can freely express their own opinions and thoughts.

"This is a creative and open way of setting questions. I like this way of setting questions," commented Mr. Minh.

Ms. Ha Thi Thu Thuy, a teacher at Ha Huy Tap Secondary School in Ho Chi Minh City, assessed that the topic "Letting thoughts be expressed in words..." is close and suitable to the students' feelings. With this exam, she hopes that the answers will be open and accept the different thoughts of the candidates.

In a more specific analysis, Mr. Vo Kim Bao, Head of the Literature Group, Nguyen Du Secondary School, Ho Chi Minh City, said that the material for the Reading Comprehension section is a letter written by the person who created the test, acting as a teacher, with quotes from works related to the topic. This is a new form of choosing material for the test.

The Social Essay question, which is led by a poetic idea and then requires candidates to write with a given title, is also a new point compared to previous years, according to Mr. Bao. This question is highly classified, students with good skills will know how to present it reasonably, linking the poetic idea and the suggested title to draw out the issue to be discussed. Students who do not have the skills to write the test will easily get off topic, get lost in discussing the content of the poem or the given title without any connection.

In the Literature Essay section (question 3), candidates can choose one of two topics to write an essay. The topics of patriotism and family affection are both familiar topics that have been thoroughly reviewed by teachers. Topic one requires candidates to analyze a work of poetry. In topic two, candidates are free to choose a work, not limited to poetry or stories. Topic two has an additional requirement to share how to read and understand the work they choose.

"This additional requirement is not difficult, students are allowed to freely express their opinions. But students who are used to studying model essays and stereotypical thinking will not understand this requirement," said Mr. Bao.

Ms. Trinh Quynh An, representative of the Literature group of the HOCMAI system, also said that the additional requirements of the second test could cause confusion for candidates. Those who are not familiar with it will have difficulty organizing and organizing their personal thoughts in a short time.

In general, teachers believe that if you have a solid grasp of the knowledge, the test, although updated, is not difficult. In the Reading section, average candidates can also get full marks.

The 10th grade Literature exam in Ho Chi Minh City has been highly appreciated by experts for its openness and innovation over the years. Last year, out of more than 94,000 candidates, one student scored 9.5 - the highest score, while 432 students scored 9 or higher.

On the afternoon of June 6, students continued to take the Foreign Language exam, with a duration of 90 minutes. On June 7, students took the Math and specialized subject exams (for students taking the specialized class exam).

Grade 10 exam scores in Ho Chi Minh City were announced on June 20.
