Sharing with Van Hoa on the first day of the new year 2025, Hoi An City Party Secretary Tran Anh emphasized: "The city will do its best to spread the spirit of Hoi An people past and present, to be a sustainable cultural space community, where feelings are connected, love and affection are deeper".
According to the Center for Culture - Sports and Radio - Television of Hoi An city, on the occasion of welcoming the new year 2025, this city organizes a series of events, community programs and cultural and artistic programs.
The opening program will be “street art performances” taking place on the evenings of December 30 and 31 at Kazik Park, with the participation of dancers and traditional and contemporary bands. On the night of December 31, the music exchange program “Hoi An - Spring and Youth” and the gala “Hoi An Welcomes New Year 2025” will take place at Hoi An Park. On the morning of January 1, 2025, Hoi An will welcome the first group of visitors to the Ancient Town.
Throughout the city, people organized many decorative and living activities, expressing unique cultural nuances, to welcome the new year 2025 and get ready to welcome the new year of At Ty.
Mr. Tran Anh acknowledged that these activities have actually always taken place in the ancient town. It should be noted that Hoi An, as the first trading port in the Central region, opened its doors to foreign traders very early, so the cultural blending, integration of events, and communication rituals have long existed between the people of Hoi An and the merchant groups and tourists from outside.
The cultural features in Hoi An have closely intermingled with the cultures of other countries, such as China, Japan, Europe, including the Portuguese, the Dutch... Therefore, the people of Hoi An are quite sensitive to the moment of changing seasons, seeing off the old year and welcoming the new year according to Western customs and the Lunar New Year with the Chinese community.
Over the past few decades, since receiving the status of World Cultural Heritage, New Year celebrations in Hoi An have become more profound. Not only the agencies and authorities, but also the people have become accustomed to having events and activities to welcome the New Year in their own way.
As tourism develops, these activities become more and more popular, to the point that on New Year's Day in the old town, you can see both Hoi An people and tourists mingling together, with almost no distinction.
From that perspective, according to Mr. Tran Anh, the more challenges there are in 2025, the more important investment and implementation activities are needed for tourism activities in Hoi An to achieve more positive results.
Firstly, Hoi An needs to continue to affirm its position as the best destination voted in 2023, with the main space being the cultural community.
Second, the work of preserving the old quarter should pay attention to the degraded structures and architectures in the old quarter, seek safer solutions for structures and objects; research to expand the conservation management area outside the old quarter, research to build a list of structures with cultural heritage and community culture values located outside the old quarter.
Third, the city continues to strengthen and promote the solidarity of the Hoi An community in implementing projects and activities, creating new tourism products to meet the needs of experiencing the daily life and lifestyle of the people with the psychology and emotions of tourists.
Fourth, it is necessary to strengthen management and supervision according to existing conservation regulations, control ticket sales, and collect fees for visiting the old town along with the responsibilities of promoting and positioning more attractive destinations. In particular, the 6 museums in the old town must develop specific and attractive promotional programs to attract tourists, to increase the effectiveness of ticket sales and customer care.
Mr. Tran Anh shared that what needs to be emphasized here is that no matter how it develops, Hoi An is still a land that retains tourists, with genuine human affection, a sense of harmony and friendliness. The community space of this city is an important foundation for indigenous cultural values to be preserved and developed. Therefore, Hoi An must pay close attention to the thoughts and feelings of the people, listen to their stories and expressions, and have timely response measures.

I borrow the lyrics of musician Phan Huynh Dieu to talk about a little bit of affection in the hearts of the people of my hometown Quang Nam. We must do everything to preserve and honor that affection, making Hoi An, Quang Nam more and more passionate and sincere.
