To help students get to school safely

Việt NamViệt Nam24/10/2024

Preventing injuries, drowning, ensuring health safety, and traffic safety are major issues that are of concern to the whole society, especially for school-age children. Therefore, implementing synchronous measures to reduce injuries and traffic accidents among school-age children is an important issue that all levels and functional sectors focus on implementing.

In the first days of the 2024-2025 school year, due to the impact of storm No. 3, many localities and schools were affected by storms and floods, causing teaching and learning at many schools and educational institutions to be interrupted. According to the Department of Education, 194 schools in the province suffered property damage, of which 60 schools had their roofs blown off, 23 schools were flooded, and 406 trees of the schools were knocked down.

In Ha Hoa district, 13 schools had their surrounding walls collapsed, their roofs blown off, their teaching equipment damaged, and 6 schools were deeply flooded. Some schools that were less affected were used as gathering, evacuation, and relocation points to ensure the safety of the people. The storm also isolated many families or forced them to evacuate urgently to ensure safety, significantly affecting the health and psychology of students and their families. With the support, assistance, and companionship of the authorities and agencies, units, and organizations, Ha Hoa district urgently implemented the work of overcoming the consequences of the storm, creating safe conditions to welcome students back to school...

Teacher Tran Thi To Tham - Principal of Ha Hoa Town Kindergarten said: With the support and assistance of agencies, units and colleagues at schools in the town, the school has mobilized 100% of staff and teachers to quickly implement measures to restore facilities and clean classrooms and schoolyards. At the same time, the entire school campus is disinfected and sterilized, ensuring a clean environment to avoid the outbreak and spread of diseases after floods.

This year, schools in the mountainous district of Tan Son were not flooded or isolated as much as in Ha Hoa. However, the risks of unsafety, injuries, and drowning for students are still present. Therefore, localities and schools in the district have implemented many measures to ensure students can safely go to class.

Due to the mountainous terrain, with Mang and Than streams flowing through, traffic in Dong Son commune, Tan Son district is quite complicated with over 10 spillways and 1 bridge. The whole commune has 3 schools at preschool, primary, secondary levels and a kindergarten in Ben Than area. The basic schools are not much affected by natural disasters because they have just been invested in and built. However, in the rainy season, the amount of water flowing through the spillways is large, significantly affecting the students' ability to go to school.

Comrade Ha Thanh Giap - Chairman of Dong Son Commune People's Committee said: Along with the propaganda work, regular reminders about ensuring safety when participating in traffic and preventing accidents, injuries, and drowning for children, the locality has mobilized forces such as: Police, military, Security and Order Team, residential area officers... to organize guidance, take children across bridges and spillways on stormy days. In case of heavy rain and danger, the forces will set up checkpoints, not allowing adults and children to cross the spillway on their own to ensure safety. At the same time, the locality also reviewed and posted warning signs at some points with high risk of landslides so that people pay attention when participating in traffic, and mobilized households to evacuate to safe places.

The risks of insecurity caused by natural disasters and storms have a great impact, affecting many people, but are temporary and sudden. On the contrary, the safety of students participating in traffic every day is also a top concern of families and schools.

Mr. Bui Dinh Trung (Gia Cam ward, Viet Tri city) shared: The time for students to go to and leave school is also rush hour, the road is crowded, however, some students drive very carelessly, without observing, carrying 3 people... They have never been trained in driving classes, do not have the skills and experience to drive, so it is very dangerous. On the other hand, students cannot buy their own vehicles, therefore, when students violate the Road Traffic Law, the main responsibility lies with parents and families...

Lam Thao District Police propagate and disseminate the law to students at Phong Chau High School

This year, the Traffic Police force of the whole province simultaneously launched a campaign to ensure traffic safety for students in October 2024. In particular, violations of the Road Traffic Law and regulations on traffic safety by students as well as those who hand over vehicles to students who are not qualified to drive, violations of regulations on road traffic safety corridors and other acts that pose a risk of causing accidents for students will all be handled by the authorities.

The Traffic Police will also coordinate with localities and schools to promote propaganda on strict compliance with the Road Traffic Law for parents and students, thereby enhancing the responsibility of parents and schools, teachers and students; creating a connection between schools and families.

In addition to the solutions of the functional sector and localities, it is necessary to have close and regular coordination in education, reminders as well as strengthening management and skills guidance to ensure safety for students. Thereby, contributing to protecting the physical and mental health of students, so that "every day at school is a happy day".
