Digging two tunnels through the mountains on Dong Dang highway

The tunnels of the two mountain tunnel projects on the Dong Dang - Tra Linh highway have been dug to speed up the next items.


According to information from the project enterprise (DNDA), the construction unit has just dug through all 2 That Khe tunnels on the Dong Dang - Tra Linh highway, 2 months ahead of schedule.

After Dong Khe tunnel, two That Khe tunnels have just been dug and cleared.

Thus, up to now, all 2 important mountain tunnel projects on the expressway have completed digging work. This is an important basis for the project to compete to reach the 2025 finish line according to the set target.

Previously, also in January 2025, Dong Khe tunnel was dug 2 months ahead of schedule.

"To complete the excavation of two 200m-long That Khe tunnel branches in Trang Dinh district (Lang Son province), the team of engineers and workers overcame many challenges, especially in terms of geology, achieving an average construction speed of 2.73 m/day," the DNDA representative informed, and also said that in the coming time, the construction force will deploy the next stages such as: digging the ground, reinforcing, installing formwork to pour concrete for the tunnel shell, and installing the ITS equipment system.

Sharing about the challenges in the construction of the Dong Khe and That Khe tunnels, Mr. Vu Dinh Vinh, Director of the EPC Package Management Board of ICV Company (the investor in the consortium) said that the construction site of the two tunnels is located in an area with complex limestone geology in the Northeast mountainous region.

To meet the schedule, DNDA, consulting and supervision units and many experts have worked together to find timely response solutions.

"The rugged and steep terrain also poses many difficulties in arranging construction sites and access roads.

Overcoming the challenges, many creative solutions have been proposed such as: improving blasting passports to reduce construction time but still ensure efficiency; Maintenance and repair of machinery are focused on, maintaining stable efficiency and construction productivity," said Mr. Vinh.

The Dong Dang - Tra Linh Expressway project has a total length of 121 km, divided into two investment phases. In phase 1, the Dong Dang - Tra Linh Expressway is invested with a length of more than 93 km.

According to the design plan, there are two tunnels through the mountain along the entire route: Dong Khe and That Khe.

Phase 1, the project has a total investment of 14,167 billion VND invested by the joint venture of Deo Ca Group Joint Stock Company - ICV Vietnam Investment and Construction Joint Stock Company - Deo Ca Transport Infrastructure Investment Joint Stock Company - Construction Joint Stock Company 568, expected to be opened in 2025 and completed in 2026.

Implementing the Prime Minister's direction on opening the expressway from Cao Bang to Ca Mau in 2025, contractors mobilized 1,217 engineers and workers, more than 470 pieces of equipment, and organized 35 construction teams day and night to speed up progress.
