Honor X8c detailed review: Thin and light, lacks 5G connectivity

Design and display

The overall appearance of the Honor X8c is almost unchanged compared to the previous X8b version that the company introduced last year.

The entire body is still made of plastic. In return, the device is light at 174 grams and 7.12 mm thin, providing a relatively comfortable user experience even when used for long periods of time.

The Marrs Green version has a back cover finished in vegetable leather, along with embossed square patterns that provide a firm grip, while helping to limit fingerprints during use.

Honor X8c is SGS Premium Performance certified for impact resistance, 360-degree protection even when dropped from a height of 1.8m, along with screen durability being increased 3 times.

In addition, the device also supports IP64 standard water and dust resistance. These features help users feel secure using the device in many different conditions.

However, it should be noted that the above technologies are integrated to increase the experience and durability of the product. Users should not rely too much on or test the device in dangerous conditions to avoid risks.

Honor X8c is equipped with a 6.7-inch AMOLED screen, Full HD + resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. The most noticeable plus point is that the screen edges are thinned evenly on the edges.

Camera and AI

Honor X8c is equipped with a dual camera system, including a 108MP main lens and a 5MP ultra-wide-angle lens. The selfie camera has a resolution of 50MP. The main camera of the device can work well and stably in many different lighting conditions. Images taken from the Honor X8c camera have harmonious colors and good details. The white balance also works accurately in bright conditions.

Testing the photo taking in harsh sunlight at noon, the camera still has good processing ability, the image retains a lot of detail and is not overexposed. The colors are also reproduced naturally, close to reality.

However, when taking pictures in low light conditions, the ability to process images is significantly reduced, and image details are also reduced. The device also supports a separate night shooting mode to help improve image quality and details. However, users will need to hold the device firmly when taking pictures in this mode. At the same time, the captured images also have a slight yellow tint.

The device is not equipped with a telephoto lens. However, Honor still has two zoom levels of 2x and 3x available on the main camera interface. Testing photos at all three zoom levels of 1x, 2x and 3x, the image quality is relatively consistent in terms of color, detail and contrast.

It can be seen that the printed text on the notice board is reproduced sharply at all three zoom levels. The 108MP high-resolution camera combined with AI algorithms supports image processing and detail enhancement.

This combination has contributed to making up for the lack of telephoto lens equipment on Honor. However, the AI system on the camera of the device will work most effectively when users take photos in bright conditions. In low light conditions, the level of detail in the photo will still decrease.

The limitation of this camera cluster lies in the ultra-wide-angle lens. In well-lit conditions, the level of detail and color is still reproduced at a sufficient level. However, when taking pictures in low-light conditions, the image detail is significantly reduced and the color is also paler.

In addition, Honor X8c is also equipped with a number of AI features that allow users to quickly edit images or use the camera system more effectively.

The AI Eraser feature helps remove unwanted objects or people from photos with just one tap. Additionally, the AI Circle to Search feature allows quick search by circling content on the screen, helping to improve work efficiency.

Performance and battery

Honor X8c is equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 685 processor, a slightly upgraded version of Snapdragon 680 chip (which appeared on many mid-range smartphones launched in 2024). The device has 8GB RAM capacity, supporting Honor RAM Turbo technology to expand up to 8GB RAM for better multitasking.

Evaluating through the Antutu BenchMark performance scoring software, the Honor X8c scored more than 370,000 points. A quick comparison with some competitors in the same price segment, the Oppo A5 Pro model running the Snapdragon 6s Gen 1 chip scored nearly 290,000 points, while the Samsung Galaxy A16 5G using the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 chip scored more than 390,000 points.

In actual experience with some popular games like PUBG Mobile or Lien Quan Mobile, the device can achieve 55-60fps with medium graphics settings. However, the heat generated during gameplay is quite a lot, especially the back area near the camera cluster.

Basically, performance is not the strong point of this product. The device will not be suitable for the need to multitask many applications running heavy tasks such as playing high-graphic games or editing videos. At the same time, this processor also does not support 5G technology, so users will not be able to experience the latest mobile connectivity on this product line.

The battery equipped with the device has a capacity of 5,000mAh, supporting SuperCharge fast charging technology with a capacity of 35W.
