Yesterday (June 12), the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training agreed on and deployed the answers, and nearly 2,000 examiners for math, literature, English, etc. officially entered the stage of marking the 10th grade exams.

According to the regulations of the Department of Education and Training, each test is graded in two independent rounds by two examiners from two different grading teams. The test is graded on a 10-point scale, and the odd points of the total score are rounded to two decimal places.

GIVE 0.25 POINTS FOR CREATIVE EXPRESSION

Ho Chi Minh City's literature exam always attracts the attention of candidates and parents, especially in this year's 10th grade entrance exam.

Speaking to Thanh Nien reporters yesterday afternoon, right after deploying the answers to the marking groups, the specialist in charge of literature at the Department of Education and Training said: "For many years, the Department of Education and Training's literature entrance exam has always been open so that students can express their thoughts and feelings about life and literature issues. This year, the exam is more open than previous years, open so that students can proactively choose works according to the given topics."

According to this expert, with this year's exam, candidates have the opportunity to choose works that they have studied and read that they are interested in and love. Within the same topic, candidates can choose their favorite works to write about. From there, they will have more inspiration when writing. To do well, students must have test-taking skills, must meet the requirements of argumentation, expression, and the application of argumentative operations, especially analysis operations.

Candidates should note the following dates after June 12:

On June 20 , the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City announced the exam results of about 96,000 candidates taking the 10th grade exam.

On June 24 , the Department announced the benchmark scores for entering grade 10 in specialized and integrated schools.

On July 10 , the Department announced the admission benchmark scores and the list of candidates admitted to regular grade 10 of public schools.

According to Thanh Nien reporters' observations during the recent literature exam, many parents were worried when many candidates chose the wrong paragraph and story to discuss the love of the Vietnamese people for their country instead of choosing the correct one, which was a stanza or a poem as in question 1 of question 3.

In response to these concerns, the Department of Education and Training specialist reassured that the answer had been agreed upon by the examination board and this situation was mentioned in the content and scoring scale. Accordingly, the examiner will base on the candidate's argument to determine whether the essay is consistent with the content and topic required by the question. Avoid evaluating the essay based solely on the poem chosen by the candidate. In case the candidate chooses to analyze the story, the examiner will still evaluate and score the skills and the topic as agreed by the examination board.

At the same time, the answer scale has 0.25 points for creativity, creative expression, showing deep and new thoughts on the discussion topic.

"Which work the candidate chooses does not determine the candidate's score. It is the candidate's presentation of his/her viewpoint, argumentation of the issue and reasonable interpretation that will determine the score. The marking guidelines set out requirements for test-taking skills, argumentation to highlight the issue, and expression. The Department of Education and Training believes that with their level and impartiality, the examiners will discover the bright spots in the candidate's essay to give appropriate scores, without missing out on the candidate," the specialist in charge of literature affirmed.

CONTROVERSIAL MATH QUESTIONS, HOW TO SCORES?

In addition, practical problem number 5 in the math exam also has many opinions surrounding the physics knowledge data appearing in the question.

Mr. Mai Van Tuc, a physics teacher at the High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences, Hanoi University of Natural Sciences, pointed out the "mistakes" in physics knowledge applied to practical problems. At the same time, he suggested that the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City should adjust the answer to question 5 to be fair to the PhDs.

Meanwhile, Mr. Lam Vu Cong Chinh, a math teacher at Nguyen Du High School (District 10, Ho Chi Minh City), said that if we consider physics knowledge and reality, the data in question 5 is not "purely" a physics problem, so it may not be close to reality. However, the question clearly states that the applied formula is "modeled" to apply mathematical knowledge, so the candidate can still solve it normally, without affecting the result of the test.

Does the math test need to be 2 pages long?

Some people think that practical math problems need to be explained and have long interdisciplinary integration content, leading to a 2-page exam?

Mr. Nguyen Bao Quoc, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, said: "The length of a practical math test depends on the objectives, the situation and the requirements for assessing abilities at the levels of recognition, understanding, application or high application. Content containing a lot of data and formulas can help candidates do the test easily. Less content or data may require students to know how to apply mathematical knowledge to solve the problem... However, the test committee always considers how to use the data in accordance with the time it takes candidates to read and do the test. The Department continues to research, receive feedback and review the results during the marking process to increasingly improve the testing and assessment work."

In response to the debate, in addition to expressing respect, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training also gave a specific response to Thanh Nien Newspaper. "The problem presents content related to the real phenomenon of the process of boiling water in an electric kettle (a familiar item in many households). This survey process is only a short stage of the water boiling process; the time of starting the survey (t = 0) is not the time of starting the water boiling process. The data is described mathematically by a drawing and a function that students have learned in the program. With the knowledge: first-degree functions, graphs of first-degree functions, points on graphs, systems of first-degree equations with two unknowns, calculations... and their mathematical abilities, students can solve the requirements set forth in the problem," the representative of the Department of Education and Training stated.

Mr. Nguyen Bao Quoc, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training, emphasized: "During the marking process, according to general regulations, cases where students have solutions that are different from the marking instructions but reasonable will be considered and evaluated. Examiners will mark all logical solutions, correct formulas and accurate results."
