Bat Xat district is implementing many projects related to traffic. The need to cut mountains and hills to make roads poses a high risk of landslides, especially during the rainy and stormy season. According to statistics from the authorities, some roads managed by Bat Xat district are prone to landslides, including: Trinh Tuong - Y Ty Road; Provincial Road 156 to Phin Ngan Commune People's Committee; the road from National Highway 4D to Tong Sanh Commune; Muong Hum - Den Thang - Den Sang Road. In addition, Bat Xat district has 79 bridge and underpass works, of which more than a dozen suspension bridges, rigid bridges and underpasses need to be upgraded and repaired to ensure traffic safety, especially during the rainy and flood season.
Mr. To Van Thanh, Head of the Economic - Infrastructure Department of Bat Xat district said: Before the rainy and stormy season, the agency coordinated with localities in the province, construction units, and investors of traffic road construction projects to review areas at risk of landslides, thereby having plans to overcome and repair them, minimizing traffic congestion and insecurity caused by rain and floods. "We have also prepared necessary conditions such as human resources, machinery, equipment, and means to promptly respond to traffic landslides" - To Van Thanh said.

National Highway 70 through Ban Cam Commune (Bao Thang District) has many landslides on the negative and positive slopes. Up to now, the landslide repair work has only been carried out on the positive slopes, while 3 points on the negative slopes have not been implemented yet. Although traffic on National Highway 70 through Ban Cam Commune has not been interrupted or blocked, the landslides that have not been repaired have more or less affected people's travel. Mr. Lung Van Doan, Vice Chairman of Ban Cam Commune People's Committee, said: People as well as local authorities have repeatedly requested the National Highway 70 maintenance management unit, Road Management Area I (Department of Roads, Ministry of Transport) to soon find solutions to repair the landslides. During the rainy season, the authorities as well as local people and neighboring areas hope that the landslides on National Highway 70 will soon be upgraded and repaired.
According to the report of the Department of Transport, the whole province currently has 38 locations on national highways and 128 locations on provincial roads with landslides and landslide risks that need to be promptly remedied. Specifically, on national highways including: National Highway 4 has 7 locations; National Highway 4D has 24 locations; National Highway 279 has 7 locations. The estimated cost for immediate remediation is about 131 million VND, the estimated cost for thorough remediation is 13 billion VND.

On provincial roads including: Provincial Road 151 has 12 locations; 151B has 11 locations; 151C has 7 locations; 152 has 37 locations; 152B has 1 location; 153 has 3 locations; 154 has 2 locations; 155 has 11 locations; 156 has 5 locations; 156B has 3 locations; 157 has 7 locations; 158 has 5 locations; 159 has 4 locations; 160 has 6 locations; 161 has 3 locations; 162 has 11 locations. The estimated cost for immediate repair is about 513 million VND; the estimated cost for permanent repair is 84 billion VND.
It is known that in the immediate future, the Department of Transport will assign the Road Maintenance Management Board to stretch ropes, install warning signs for slow driving, and locations at risk of landslides on positive and negative slopes (to fix immediate problems), expected to be completed in May 2024. In the long term, for national highways, the Department of Transport will report to the Vietnam Road Administration for permission to add to the emergency repair plan. For provincial roads, locations outside of provincial road projects being upgraded, the department has proposed that the Provincial People's Committee assign the department to prepare an investment proposal for early repair and remediation.
The rainy and flood season has arrived, the risk of landslides on roads and underground flooding on bridges is very high. People traveling on the roads need to pay special attention, observe and strictly follow the instructions of local authorities and functional agencies to avoid unfortunate consequences.
