Currently, Coc Pai town, Xin Man district (Ha Giang) has recorded 16 large and small landslides, of which 13 are active or re-active.
On February 13, a working delegation of the Standing Committee of the Ha Giang Provincial Party Committee worked with Xin Man district on a plan to relocate Coc Pai town due to the high risk of landslides.
Currently, Coc Pai town has recorded 16 large and small landslides, of which 13 are active or re-active, especially the landslides at the stadium and district administrative area with lengths of 350 - 500m, widths of 150 - 200m, and depths of 12 - 18m.
Ha Giang plans to relocate Coc Pai town due to high risk of landslides.
The landslides occur slowly in the dry season but accelerate rapidly in the rainy season. The area with high and very high risk of landslides covers an area of about 2.39 km2, potentially affecting 1,012/1,704 structures; the number of households in the affected area is 1,041 households, 3,845 people.
In the immediate future, Xin Man district has proposed to Ha Giang province to relocate 44 households in areas at high risk of landslides to new safe places. The relocation will take place in Na Pan village, 6km from Coc Pai town center.

Regarding long-term solutions, Xin Man district plans to have 2 locations for planning and building a new Xin Man district center. The first location is 398 hectares wide, with part of the area belonging to Xin Man, Quan Din Ngai, Lao Po villages, Xin Man commune and expanding part of the area belonging to Khau Tinh village, Then Phang commune, Ho Sao Chai village, Chi Ca commune. The second location is in Hau Cau village, Xin Man commune with an area of 248 hectares.
The leaders of Ha Giang province requested relevant agencies of the province to determine the location to build the new Xin Man district center in accordance with the planning, both moving state agencies and relocating human resources associated with border economic development to submit to the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee for decision.
The construction plan and selection of a new location for the Xin Man district center must complete the report to the Government and the National Assembly in 2025.
