On the morning of December 15, in Pleiku city (Gia Lai province), the Party Committee and Command of the 34th Corps held a ceremony to announce the decision to establish the Corps.
Attending the ceremony were General Phan Van Giang, Politburo member, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Minister of National Defense; members of the Central Military Commission Standing Committee: Senior Lieutenant General Trinh Van Quyet, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army; Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong, Party Central Committee member, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, Deputy Minister of National Defense; Senior Lieutenant General Vo Minh Luong, Party Central Committee member, Deputy Minister of National Defense. Also attending were Party Central Committee member, Provincial Party Secretary, Chairman of the Gia Lai Provincial People's Council Ho Van Nien; representatives of leaders of provinces where the 34th Corps is stationed.
At the ceremony, the Organizing Committee announced Decision No. 5901/QD-BQP, dated December 7, 2024 of the Minister of National Defense on the dissolution of Army Corps 3; Decision No. 5902/QD-BQP, dated December 7, 2024 of the Minister of National Defense on the dissolution of Army Corps 4; Decision No. 5989/QD-BQP, dated December 10, 2024 of the Minister of National Defense on the establishment of Army Corps 34.
Accordingly, the 34th Corps was established on the basis of merging the 3rd and 4th Corps. Major General Nguyen Ba Luc, Commander of the 3rd Corps, was appointed to the position of Commander of the 34th Corps. Major General Le Minh Quang, Chief of Politics of Military Region 9, was transferred and appointed to the position of Party Secretary and Political Commissar of the 34th Corps.
On this occasion, General Phan Van Giang presented the Quyet Thang Military Flag - a symbol of the tradition and strength of determination to fight and win of the Vietnam People's Army to the 34th Army Corps.
General Phan Van Giang emphasized that the establishment of the 34th Corps is a major policy of the Party, the State, the Central Military Commission, and the Ministry of National Defense. The decision is of great significance, marking the maturity and development of our Army. According to the Minister of National Defense, this is a step to concretize the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress on building a revolutionary, disciplined, elite, and gradually modernized Army, with a number of military services, arms, and forces advancing straight to modernization; by 2025, the Army will basically be built to be "elite, compact, and strong", creating a solid foundation, striving to build a revolutionary, disciplined, elite, and modern People's Army by 2030.
The Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense have identified the 34th Corps as the main strategic mobile Corps, organized in the direction of being lean, compact, strong, and advancing towards modernity. The Corps' scale and force organization will be larger; its functions and tasks will be supplemented with heavier ones; and it will be equipped with more modern weapons and means. With the new arrangement, the Corps must undertake the task of launching medium-scale campaigns and defeating all new forms of enemy combat in the future.
General Phan Van Giang noted that in the newly established conditions, while performing regular and ad hoc tasks, it is necessary to perfect the organization and forces, complete the system of regulations, leadership and working regulations of the Party organization, command organization, mass organization..., the workload is very large and the requirements are very urgent. The 34th Corps needs to be proactive, make efforts, and be highly determined in leading the implementation of tasks.
“The Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense believe that with new spirit and determination, officers and soldiers of the 34th Corps will successfully complete all assigned tasks, worthy of the trust and love of the Party, State, People, the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of National Defense and officers and soldiers of the entire army,” General Phan Van Giang emphasized.
Major General Nguyen Ba Luc, Commander of the 34th Corps, affirmed that this is an important milestone, a starting point to open new pages of history for the Corps, a great honor and pride for the officers and soldiers of the 34th Corps. On behalf of the entire unit, the Commander of the 34th Corps affirmed that the Party Committee, the Command and all officers and soldiers of the Corps promise to be absolutely loyal to the Party, the Fatherland and the People; steadfast in the goals and ideals of the Party; determined to fulfill the task of protecting the Party, the State and the People in all situations.
The officers and soldiers of the 34th Corps are determined to maintain and enhance the glorious tradition of their predecessor units, striving so that the Victory Flag of the Corps will be awarded noble awards by the Party, the State, the Central Military Commission, and the Ministry of National Defense; building the 34th Corps to be truly "refined, compact, and strong", advancing towards modernity, meeting the requirements and tasks of protecting the Fatherland in the new situation.
Previously, General Phan Van Giang and delegates from the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of National Defense, and the 34th Corps offered incense to commemorate the heroic martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the struggle for national liberation at the Martyrs' Monument and visited the 34th Corps Museum.
