In 2025, Ho Chi Minh City National University will implement the Visiting Professor Program, with the goal of appointing 100 visiting professors in the 2025-2030 period.

On the morning of February 7, Ho Chi Minh City National University held a seminar to contribute ideas to the draft revised Law on Science and Technology and to collect opinions on the Visiting Professor Program.
Target to attract 100 visiting professors
Sharing at the seminar, Dr. Le Thi Anh Tram - Head of the Organization and Personnel Department of Ho Chi Minh City National University - said that the Visiting Professor Program aims to attract and promote cooperation with outstanding experts and scientists in the world, contributing to improving the quality of teaching and research at Ho Chi Minh City National University.
"The program aims to appoint 100 visiting professors in the 2025-2030 period. In 2025 and 2026 alone, the program will invite and appoint 50 visiting professors," said Ms. Tram.
Invited participants are professors, associate professors, experts, scientists, and managers with outstanding achievements, currently working at universities, research institutes, international organizations, and technology corporations around the world.
Ms. Tram added: "According to the appointment criteria, candidates must have outstanding achievements in teaching, research and technology transfer, with contributions demonstrated through international publications, patents and technology products.
In particular, the program prioritizes the fields of biotechnology, biomedicine, chip - semiconductor, artificial intelligence, digital transformation, material technology, new energy, new logistics, international finance, climate change and sustainable development, history, Vietnamese culture...".
Visiting professors must spend at least 10 days working directly
Visiting professor is a position appointed by the director of Ho Chi Minh City National University, working on a part-time basis, performing teaching and research in person or online.
According to Ms. Le Thi Anh Tram, visiting professors will be appointed for a maximum of 5 years, a minimum of 1 year and can be extended. They will receive competitive remuneration and support for travel and accommodation while working at Ho Chi Minh City National University.
In addition, they also have access to modern facilities, laboratories and research resources at member schools of Ho Chi Minh City National University.

According to Associate Professor Dr. Vu Hai Quan - Director of Ho Chi Minh City National University, each visiting professor must spend at least 10 days working directly at Ho Chi Minh City National University each year; with the consent of the agency or organization where he/she is working.
At the same time, proactively plan and participate in direct or online teaching; be ready to organize scientific seminars, co-instruct graduate students and support the development of international cooperation proposals as well as support the building of strong research groups.
"The program not only aims to improve the quality of teaching, but also contributes to promoting scientific research and innovation at Ho Chi Minh City National University.
Visiting professors are expected to contribute, build and improve talent training programs; impart experience, update knowledge and the latest technology trends to students and postgraduates; propose, build and co-chair research programs, interdisciplinary research projects, and solve urgent challenges in Vietnam and the region.
In particular, the program will contribute to strengthening cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City National University and universities, research institutes and businesses around the world, expanding learning and research opportunities for students," Mr. Quan emphasized.

Prof. Dr. Mai Thanh Phong - Rector of the University of Technology (Ho Chi Minh City National University) - welcomed the Visiting Professor Program, while noting compliance with Vietnamese laws for foreigners participating in scientific research and requesting clarification of standards and working conditions for visiting professors.
Mr. Nguyen Van Sinh - member of the Interdisciplinary Council of Information Technology, Ho Chi Minh City National University - hopes that visiting professors will be able to contribute ideas and receive feedback in industry councils and the State Council of Professors, in accordance with their expertise, in order to improve the quality of scientific research in Vietnam.
Accepting applications for visiting professorship from March 2025
Ho Chi Minh City National University will accept applications from March 2025 and organize a thorough review board based on criteria of capacity and scientific achievements.
Qualified candidates will undergo an in-person or online interview before being officially appointed. Appointment decisions are expected to be announced in May 2025.
For professors with special achievements, who wish to contribute, build, develop science - technology, and innovate for Ho Chi Minh City National University and are introduced by a prestigious scientist inside and outside Ho Chi Minh City National University, the review board will propose to the director of Ho Chi Minh City National University to consider, decide to invite and appoint without having to go through the appointment process.
