On the morning of October 9, Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) held the opening ceremony of the new school year 2024 - 2025. Member of the Politburo, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Propaganda Department Nguyen Trong Nghia attended and delivered a speech at the opening ceremony.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Politburo member, Party Central Committee Secretary, Head of the Central Propaganda Department Nguyen Trong Nghia assessed that since its establishment in 1956, under the name of Polytechnic University, after nearly 70 years of construction and development, Hanoi University of Science and Technology has gradually affirmed its position and prestige, as the cradle of training high-quality scientific and technical human resources, making very important contributions to the cause of building and developing the country and firmly protecting the socialist Vietnamese Fatherland.
From the first 848 students in 1956, the school has now enrolled over 9,000 students per course, with a training scale of nearly 40,000 students, including international students. The staff and lecturers with doctoral and science doctoral degrees account for 74% (the highest rate among higher education institutions in the country), including nearly 300 professors and associate professors. "This is the most important resource, potential, advantage, force and motivation that needs to be nurtured, promoted, exploited and used effectively" - Comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia emphasized.
Head of the Central Propaganda Department Nguyen Trong Nghia also noted that according to the QS Higher Education Institutions Rankings (UK), in 2023, Hanoi University of Science and Technology ranked 248th among the best higher education institutions in Asia; at the 54th position among the best higher education institutions in Southeast Asia. Hanoi University of Science and Technology is an active and key member of the national innovation network, playing a leading role in domestic technical universities to develop and spread initiatives, scientific and technological solutions and innovation...
Praising and appreciating the achievements the school has made, comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia affirmed: "This is a great effort, also an honor and pride of generations of teachers, students, staff and students of Hanoi University of Science and Technology".
Boldly pilot new models
According to comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia, our Party and State always pay special attention to the development of science, technology, basic research, and applied research, considering these as key areas to enhance the country's capacity for independence, autonomy, self-reliance, and self-reliance.
We are in the final stage of the 13th National Party Congress. The entire Party, people and army are demonstrating the highest determination, making the greatest efforts and taking the most drastic actions to successfully implement the 13th National Party Congress resolution. In addition, the task of providing comments on draft documents of the 14th National Party Congress; summarizing a number of theoretical and practical issues on the socialist-oriented renovation process in Vietnam over the past 40 years requires the participation of cadres, party members and people of all walks of life, the entire political system, especially experts, scientists and intellectuals at higher education institutions.
Emphasizing these points, comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia suggested that Hanoi University of Science and Technology promote its long tradition, be proud of its glorious achievements, and aim to build Hanoi University of Science and Technology into a leading university in Asia; a research, innovative, and comprehensively autonomous university; an excellent center of technological innovation in the region, in the 2024-2025 school year.

The Head of the Central Propaganda Department also requested that Hanoi University of Science and Technology focus on researching and proposing new, innovative ideas. Create strong, comprehensive changes in training quality associated with research, development of science, technology and innovation. Focus on industries and fields that meet the requirements of developing a knowledge-based economy, digital economy, green economy, circular economy, especially basic sciences, engineering, technology and new industries such as artificial intelligence, data science, semiconductors.
Comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia also requested that Hanoi University of Science and Technology pay special attention to building a team of teachers in terms of both talent and morality, quality and scientific prestige, because this is the most important resource and driving force to create breakthrough development. Promote political and ideological education, considering this as the top priority task, associated with the role and responsibility of the leader. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Quyet Thang said that in the period of 2030 - 2035, the Party and the State have assigned the task to Hanoi University of Science and Technology to have a breakthrough and outstanding development to be among the top universities in Asia! Currently, the University has completed the Project to submit to the Ministry of Education and Training to seek opinions from relevant ministries, branches and localities and is expected to submit to the Prime Minister in November 2024.
At the same time, the Hanoi University of Science and Technology Development Strategy Framework for the period 2025-2035 with a vision to 2045 has been developed by the University, communicated internally and approved by the University Council.
