This is the 10th year the event has been held globally, the 6th time Vietnam has participated and the first time it has been held at the Hanoi Stock Exchange.
The event aims to highlight the key role of the private sector in promoting gender equality and women's economic empowerment towards sustainable business and social development.
The event was jointly organized by the Hanoi Stock Exchange, Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange, UN Women, Vietnam Women Entrepreneurs Council, Vietnam Confederation of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Australian Embassy in Vietnam.
In a world facing multiple crises, with recent estimates suggesting that 75% of countries will curb spending on essential public services and social protection, achieving gender equality is more important than ever.
Ensuring gender equality and women's economic empowerment is the best way to ensure a prosperous economy and sustainable social development.
In 2024, the United Nations has chosen the theme of International Women's Day as: Investing in Women: Accelerating Development . This year's event calls on the private sector, especially listed and securities companies, to step up investment in women's development and gender equality in the workplace, community and market.
The event was attended by representatives of agencies, organizations, securities companies, companies listed on the Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City stock exchanges, and women-owned businesses in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring provinces.
