On the evening of January 8, Ho Chi Minh City Police released information related to the case of a man who burned himself with gasoline in Nha Be District. Accordingly, on the evening of January 7, a task force of 7 officers and soldiers from the Traffic Police Team, Nha Be District Police and Hiep Phuoc Commune Police conducted patrols and inspections.
At 8:20 p.m., at the checkpoint in the Hamlet 1 Office area (725 Nguyen Van Tao Street, Hamlet 1, Hiep Phuoc Commune, Nha Be District), the working group discovered Mr. NXT (35 years old, from Tay Ninh) driving a motorbike with signs of intoxication, so they signaled him to stop the vehicle.
The working group asked Mr. T. to take an alcohol test and present relevant documents. The results showed that Mr. T. had violated the alcohol level, at 0.925 mg/l. In addition, Mr. T. could not present his driver's license, vehicle registration, or citizen identification card.
Therefore, the working group proceeded to draw up administrative violation records for the above violations, temporarily detained and sealed the motorbike. Mr. T. signed to confirm the records drawn up by the traffic police team.
Then, at 9:20 p.m., Mr. T. took two plastic bottles of gasoline and poured it on himself as he walked. The man went straight to the Hamlet 1 Office - where the working group was working - and lit a fire to set himself on fire. Immediately, the working group and people around him put out the fire and took Mr. T. to the emergency room at Nha Be District Hospital and then to Cho Ray Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City. At 8:55 a.m. on January 8, Mr. T. died at the hospital.
Immediately after the incident, the Investigation Police Agency of Nha Be District Police coordinated with the People's Procuracy of Nha Be District and Hiep Phuoc Commune Police to conduct a crime scene investigation, collect evidence, verify and investigate the case.
The police worked with Ms. TTBT (residing in Nha Be district) - Mr. T's lover and some related people.
Initially, the police determined that Mr. T. and Ms. BT had known each other since November 2022, and then lived together as husband and wife. In life, the two had conflicts because Mr. T. often drank, was unreasonably jealous, and beat Ms. BT.
There was even a time when Mr. T. stabbed Ms. BT with scissors and hit her on the head with a phone.
At the peak of the conflict, from December 30, 2023 until now, Ms. BT was afraid and moved back to live with her family, avoiding Mr. T. Since then, Mr. T. has tried every way to contact and through many people to threaten and kill Ms. BT and her family.
On the afternoon of January 7, Mr. T. went to look for Ms. BT but could not find her. At this time, Mr. T. met a friend of Ms. BT and told him that the two of them were no longer living together, he was bored, and intended to kill Ms. BT.
In the evening, Mr. T. contacted by phone but Ms. BT did not answer.
The police extracted the contents of Mr. T's phone and noted that there were many voice messages on Zalo and many video clips that Mr. T. recorded himself and sent to Ms. BT with the content saying that he would commit suicide at the Office of Hamlet 1 - where the working group was working.
According to Ho Chi Minh City Police, the Nha Be District Police Working Group's alcohol concentration test on T. was carried out according to plan; the inspection and record-making process was carried out in accordance with procedures and regulations; T. himself signed the records to confirm.
The above content is initial information from Ho Chi Minh City Police. Currently, the case of Mr. T. using gasoline to set himself on fire is being further clarified by the Investigation Police Agency - Nha Be District Police.
