Ms. Thai Thi To Loan (39 years old, teacher at Chau Thanh A Primary School, Chau Thanh District, Soc Trang Province) received a certificate of merit from the Prime Minister for her efforts in teaching and helping poor students.

Ms. Loan said that when she was young, her family was poor. Her childhood was full of hardship and she always knew that only by studying could she hope to overcome poverty. Perhaps that is why, when she became a teacher, she always helped poor students.

To teach, first of all, you must truly love children and teach with love for them. I invest in preparing teaching materials, lesson plans, and designing lectures to attract students. When children like it, they will focus on the lesson and gain more knowledge.

Pick up and drop off students every day

Ms. Loan recalled that 5 years ago, in her homeroom class, there was a student named Thach Giau. He was very obedient and studious, but his family situation was difficult. His parents worked for hire, so he had to drop out of school to stay home and look after his younger siblings. Seeing this, she and the school learned about the family's difficulties and shared their concerns, helping him go to school like his peers.

Knowing that Thach Giau had no means of transportation to school, Ms. Loan volunteered to take him to school every day for more than a month, hoping that he could continue his studies. After that, the school helped him get a bicycle and the family tried to help Thach Giau go back to school.

"Seeing poor students makes me feel so sorry! Whatever I can do to help them, I do it right away. I hope they study well and grow up to be good people, that makes me very happy," Ms. Loan confided.

Not only that, at school, Ms. Loan participates in mobilizing resources to invest in school facilities, coordinates with parents and philanthropists to socialize education to support books, clothes, and money for poor students.

Specifically, from 2020 to 2023, she mobilized nearly 50 million VND, 200 boxes of masks for schools to prevent the COVID-19 epidemic, more than 200 notebooks, 300kg of rice...

Thus, Ms. Loan's kindness has partly supported poor and near-poor students to have more motivation to go to school.

Engage students through every lesson

22 years in the profession is a process of self-improvement of professional knowledge and skills and learning from colleagues.

"In each class, I try to carefully prepare the content, apply information technology, and create teaching aids to attract students. I always try to achieve the educational goal of promoting individual abilities and comprehensive development for each student...", Ms. Loan shared.

Ms. Loan started the math lesson by integrating the game "Save the whale". Each correct answer on how to read and write three-digit numbers will free the poor whale. Phuong Nhi, Ha Duc, Hien Luong... of class 2A enthusiastically volunteered to answer the questions Ms. Loan had just shown on the classroom TV screen.

Just like that, the whales were rescued thanks to the efforts of their classmates. A round of applause and bright smiles from the children were cleverly interspersed into the teacher's and students' lesson.

To understand the structure of three-digit numbers, Ms. Loan gave her students a learning task by learning "a day as a farmer." "Today we will visit my grandfather's farm. Please help two children go through three stations on the farm to harvest carrots," Ms. Loan said, pointing to the TV screen.

"To teach, first of all, you must truly love children and teach with love for them. I invest in preparing teaching materials, lesson plans, and designing lectures to attract students. When children like it, they will focus on the lesson and gain more knowledge," said Ms. Loan.

Her constant efforts have helped her achieve many achievements such as winning first, second, and third prizes in the Excellent Teacher Competition and Excellent Homeroom Teacher Competition at all levels for many consecutive years... Most recently, she received the Certificate of Merit for Outstanding Teacher from the Minister of Education and Training in 2023.

With new colleagues working at the school, Ms. Loan always cares and helps, contributing ideas to the lessons so that the new teachers can gain experience to teach better.

Meanwhile, Mr. Nguyen Van My, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Chau Thanh district, Soc Trang, said that Ms. Loan is a key teacher in the district's education sector, respected by leaders, colleagues, parents and students for her dedication to the profession.

"Her long-standing achievements are the clearest proof of her self-study efforts," said Mr. My.
