Prime Minister's visit to Europe: Moving forward with Vietnam in the new era

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's working trip conveyed a message of determination, aspiration and attracting international resources to develop the country in the new era.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has just successfully concluded his official visit to Poland and the Czech Republic, attended the 55th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) and held bilateral meetings in Switzerland.

The Prime Minister's working trip conveyed a message of determination, aspiration and attracting international resources to develop the country in the new era.

According to the VNA special correspondent, during the 8-day working trip including travel time, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had a busy, rich and diverse schedule of activities. All three countries gave the Prime Minister, his wife and the Vietnamese high-ranking delegation a warm, friendly and sincere welcome.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had talks, meetings and exchanges with most of the senior leaders of the State, Government and Parliament of Poland, the Czech Republic and held talks with the President of Switzerland.

The outstanding result is that all three countries wish and agree to upgrade and aim to upgrade their relations with Vietnam. In particular, Vietnam-Poland promote upgrading the relationship to a Strategic Partnership; Vietnam-Czech Republic upgrade the relationship to a Strategic Partnership; Vietnam-Switzerland upgrade the relationship to a Comprehensive Partnership.

Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Minh Hang said that the agreement to elevate relations between Vietnam and the three countries has historical significance, creating a breakthrough for Vietnam and the countries to enter a new phase.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and leaders of the countries agreed on measures to create new momentum for cooperation in traditional areas such as trade, investment, tourism, education-training, defense-security, culture, tourism, labor, etc.; at the same time, expanding cooperation to new areas such as digital transformation, green transformation, information technology and communications, cyber security, pharmaceuticals, automobile industry, aviation and railway connectivity, etc. In particular, with Poland and the Czech Republic, the two sides are determined to soon increase trade turnover to 5 billion USD/year instead of about 2 billion USD as at present.

In order to quickly realize the agreements and enhance cooperation, during his visit to the countries, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh also had meetings with leaders of several organizations, political parties, and friendship associations; and visited several cultural, scientific and technical establishments in the countries.

The Prime Minister chaired forums, dialogues and worked with leading businesses of the countries to call for investment and promote trade between Vietnam and the countries. During the Prime Minister's visit, Vietnam and the three countries signed eight cooperation agreements on diplomacy, labor, aviation, education, sports and culture.

Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien said that the countries highly appreciated Vietnam's role and considered Vietnam a leading important partner in the region and the world; they wished to bring the bilateral relationship to a new height, comprehensively and effectively in all fields. Vietnam and its partner countries discussed and agreed on many important goals, tasks and solutions in economic, trade and investment cooperation.

The two sides agreed to strive to increase bilateral trade turnover by one and a half to two times in the next 3-5 years; strengthen cooperation to facilitate trade and investment, prevent disruptions in supply chains, and promote cooperation to fundamentally and comprehensively address the concerns of both sides.

In particular, in Poland and the Czech Republic, the Prime Minister spent time visiting economic establishments owned by Vietnamese people; had meetings with officials, staff of the Embassy and the Vietnamese community there.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his wife joined the Vietnamese community in Poland and the Czech Republic in the Homeland Spring program, bringing warm feelings from the homeland to our compatriots in other countries as Tet and Spring come.

According to Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Hang, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's visit to the Czech Republic and Poland took place before the Lunar New Year 2025. Therefore, the Prime Minister spent time and had many activities with the Vietnamese community in Poland and the Czech Republic.

Through these activities, everyone was happy, felt the pride, growth and development of the Vietnamese community in Poland and the Czech Republic. The Vietnamese community in Poland and the Czech Republic has solidarity, national pride, truly turns towards the homeland and country, and wishes to contribute to the development of the country in the future.

The “Homeland Spring” programs that the Prime Minister attended were all very warm, emotional and demonstrated the spirit of national pride. Thereby, promoting the spirit of great national unity and attracting resources from overseas Vietnamese to join hands to contribute to the development of the country in the coming time.

During his program to attend the 55th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum, with just over 30 hours in Davos, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had a packed schedule.

The Prime Minister attended and spoke at four discussion sessions of the Conference, including three sessions specifically designed by WEF for Vietnam, especially the dialogue sessions.

Ms. Rebeca Grynspan, Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), said that through her dialogue with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, it can be affirmed that Vietnam is one of the best examples of a developing country with a very optimistic growth rate with surprising numbers. Vietnam has grown about 7% per year over the past 30 years.

In particular, in the context of the world going through recession, Vietnam's economy is still growing strongly and is a typical model of a country developing based on innovation and knowledge economy. UNCTAD is very happy that Vietnam will host the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development. The conference is held every 4 years and everyone is very excited that Vietnam will be the host country.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister also had meetings with nearly 20 leaders of countries and international organizations; and leaders of ministries, sectors and localities exchanged and had dialogues with nearly 250 leading corporations at 5 seminars on the occasion of the conference.

According to Mr. Don Lam, General Director of VinaCapital Group, some investors he met on this occasion hope and expect that Vietnam will open its doors for foreign enterprises to bring technology to Vietnam for investment, because currently, Vietnam is very stable politically and has abundant human resources in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Mr. Naga Chandrasekara, Executive Vice President and Chief Global Operations Officer of Intel Corporation, said that Vietnam has great opportunities in digital transformation and innovation. Intel has invested and operated factories in Vietnam for over 15 years, focusing on high-tech development. Vietnam has many opportunities because it has a young, abundant and talented labor force. The vision, goals and commitments of the Vietnamese Government are very ambitious, thus creating motivation and demonstrating high determination.

It can be affirmed that by attending the 55th Annual Meeting of the WEF, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the Vietnamese delegation conveyed a strong message of sincerity, cooperation, solidarity and responsibility to the international community; at the same time, with trust, dynamism, creativity and rich potential, Vietnam is ready and eager to promote effective cooperation with partners.

Mr. Hayashi Nobumitsu, Governor of the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), said at the conference, he heard from Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh about Vietnam's efforts to achieve its growth targets. With its efforts and proven achievements, Vietnam is an important investment destination for Japanese companies. Many Japanese companies consider Vietnam to be the second most important investment destination in the world, especially for manufacturing companies looking for quality labor to increase their competitive advantage in production.

Giving a comprehensive assessment of the results of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's working trip to Poland, the Czech Republic and Switzerland, Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Minh Hang affirmed that the results of the Prime Minister's working trip continued to importantly and effectively implement the foreign policy set forth by the 13th National Party Congress, contributing to enhancing the country's role, position and prestige in the international arena, while attracting resources to serve the country's development in the new development stage./.
