On July 29, Comrade Cao Tuong Huy, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, received a delegation of the Japanese House of Representatives Environment Committee led by Mr. Mutai Shunsuke, Member of the House of Representatives of the Liberal Democratic Party, Chairman of the Committee, who is visiting and working in Quang Ninh. Also attending was Mr. Wantanabe Shige, Deputy Ambassador, Embassy of Japan in Vietnam.

At the reception, Comrade Cao Tuong Huy, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, informed the working delegation about the efforts, determination and solutions of Quang Ninh in environmental protection in the province.
With the viewpoint of “not trading the environment for economic growth”, Quang Ninh has issued and implemented many drastic and synchronous solutions in directing environmental protection. The province considers this as one of the prerequisites for sustainable development, especially for the environment of Ha Long Bay - recognized by UNESCO as a World Natural Heritage three times.
He emphasized: Due to its location adjacent to localities with developed urban areas, the large bay area, diverse and complex waterway traffic, and vibrant economic activities, this has become a significant challenge for the work and task of protecting the environment of Ha Long Bay.
To deal with the environment arising from vegetation on limestone mountains and waste generated from human activities, Quang Ninh has directed drastic solutions, implemented dismantling and relocation of seafood cages not in the right planning location; converted aquaculture materials to sustainable materials; invested in a system to collect domestic wastewater generated from urban areas and vehicles operating in the bay; mobilized all social organizations and people to participate in regular and periodic garbage collection... Along with that, effectively exploited infrastructure and technology from support projects, especially projects invested by Japan. Since then, environmental protection work in Quang Ninh in general and in Ha Long Bay in particular has had many positive changes.
However, to develop and protect the environment in a sustainable way, there is still much to do, and more solutions are needed to synchronously treat waste and wastewater generated from human activities. Therefore, he hopes that the Japanese House of Representatives Environment Committee will continue to accompany, care for, and support Quang Ninh in researching and implementing effective solutions in environmental protection in Ha Long Bay; and request the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to continue to implement support activities, build a resource circulation system, and build a mechanism to control environmental pollution problems at the root in Ha Long Bay.

Mr. Mutai Shunsuke, Member of the Liberal Democratic Party, Chairman of the Committee, affirmed: Environmental protection is of great concern to Japan, especially issues such as global warming, waste and wastewater treatment. These are issues that require international cooperation. Therefore, the Environment Committee of the Japanese House of Representatives wishes to promote cooperation with localities in Vietnam, including Quang Ninh.
The goal will be to care, share and exchange experiences in handling existing environmental issues in the locality; protection work in general, environmental protection in particular, promoting the value and effectively exploiting Ha Long Bay - a unique and rare heritage of humanity.
As Chairman of the Environment Committee of the Japanese House of Representatives, Mr. Mutai Shunsuke will continue to promote the sharing of Japan’s experiences in environmental protection to Quang Ninh. Through this, he will continue to foster the good relationship between Japan and Vietnam, continuing to leave a deep impression on the people of the two countries.
