On the afternoon of November 23, at the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man had an audience with Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni.
King Norodom Sihamoni warmly welcomed National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man leading a high-ranking delegation of the Party and State of Vietnam to official visit and attended the 12th Plenary Session of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP), the 11th Plenary Session of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace (IPTP); emphasized that the visit significantly contributed to strengthening the special neighborly relationship between the two countries.
King Norodom Sihamoni respectfully conveyed the Queen Mother's regards to the National Assembly Chairman; at the same time, through the National Assembly Chairman, sent regards to General Secretary To Lam, President Luong Cuong and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man expressed his honor to represent the leaders of the Party and State of Vietnam to officially visit the Kingdom of Cambodia and attend two important international conferences hosted by Cambodia; respectfully conveyed the regards and best wishes of health from General Secretary To Lam, President Luong Cuong, and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to the King and Queen Mother.
The National Assembly Chairman was pleased to note that after 20 years of the King's wise reign, the Cambodian people have achieved important achievements in the political, economic and social fields, especially the people's lives have improved day by day, and Cambodia's international role and position have been increasingly enhanced in the region and the world.
Congratulating Cambodia on successfully holding recent elections, the National Assembly Chairman expressed his belief that with the current stable political environment and growth momentum, Cambodia will soon achieve its goal of becoming an upper-middle-income country by 2030 and a high-income country by 2050.
At the meeting, King Norodom Sihamoni and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man were pleased to note that the comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia has been continuously developing well. As two close neighboring countries, Cambodia and Vietnam have shared hardships and stood shoulder to shoulder in the process of sacrificing and arduous struggle to gain independence and freedom for each country.
King Norodom Sihamoni affirmed that historical tradition has shown that the late King Norodom Sihanouk and President Ho Chi Minh laid the foundation and built a solid friendship bridge for the good relationship between Vietnam and Cambodia. Today, President of the Senate Samdech Hun Sen, Prime Minister Samdech Hun Manet and other senior leaders of Cambodia are the ones who continue and promote that traditional cooperative, solidarity and friendship relationship.
National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man emphasized that this fine tradition is a source of pride and a priceless asset that the two nations need to preserve, nurture and develop sustainably for future generations.
Throughout the past time, the King and Royal Family of Cambodia have always had warm feelings and made great contributions to the development of the relationship between the two countries. The people and generations of Vietnamese leaders always cherish and appreciate this good feelings, support and valuable help.
The National Assembly Chairman emphasized that the visits to Vietnam and the great affection and support of the late King Norodom Sihanouk and the Queen Mother as well as the King always left deep memories for the leaders and people of Vietnam. General Secretary To Lam, President Luong Cuong and the Vietnamese people always cherish the deep affection of the King and the Queen Mother for Vietnam, and wish to welcome the King and the Queen Mother to pay a State visit to Vietnam.
The National Assembly Chairman said that during his visit to Cambodia, he had effective talks with National Assembly Chairman Khuon Sudary and meetings with Senate President Hun Sen and Prime Minister Hun Manet. The two sides had substantive and effective discussions on measures to promote cooperation between the two countries and the two National Assemblies in the coming time for the benefit of the people of both countries.
The National Assembly Chairman affirmed that the Party, State, National Assembly and people of Vietnam will do their utmost together with Cambodia to continue to foster the relationship of “good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, long-term sustainability” to meet the aspirations of the people of the two countries. The National Assembly of Vietnam will, together with the Senate and the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia, continue to strengthen cooperation in legislation, supervision and decision-making on major issues of the country.
On this occasion, the National Assembly Chairman respectfully thanked the King for signing the Decree granting Cambodian nationality to 3 people of Vietnamese origin on April 20, 2024; hoping that the King will continue to pay attention, and together with senior Cambodian leaders, direct the removal of difficulties and obstacles, create conditions for naturalization for people who are qualified, and create favorable conditions for people of Vietnamese origin to live and do business stably and legally in Cambodia, integrate well with the locality and serve as a bridge of friendship between the two countries.
