Vietnamese Ambassador to Singapore Mai Phuoc Dung said that the Vietnamese community in Singapore currently has more than 25,000 people. They strictly abide by the laws of the host country, are truly a bridge between the people of the two countries and are highly appreciated by Singapore. The Embassy has closely coordinated with the Community Liaison Committee and the Student Association to organize many practical activities for the community such as organizing the Chung cake wrapping festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, participating in the International Migrants Day, etc.

The Embassy also coordinated with the Liaison Committee to provide information to help workers avoid legal troubles with local authorities. On the occasion of the traditional Tet holiday, the Embassy coordinated with the Liaison Committee to visit and give gifts to workers and students in difficult circumstances who could not return home for Tet...

At the meeting, Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Minh Khuong - Lecturer at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (Singapore) shared his joy and emotion when the country is making strong changes in the new era - the era of the Vietnamese people's rise; expressed his high agreement on the urgency of carrying out a revolution in streamlining the apparatus of the political system so that the apparatus can operate effectively, efficiently and effectively.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man expressed his delight at meeting with officials and staff of the Embassy and representatives of associations and the Vietnamese community in Singapore; emphasizing that this visit of the Delegation aims to promote the upgrading of the bilateral relationship between Vietnam and Singapore to a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2025, an important time when Vietnam celebrates the 80th anniversary of the founding of the country, the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Party, the 50th anniversary of the complete liberation of the South and the reunification of the country, and Singapore celebrates the 60th anniversary of the founding of the country.

The National Assembly Chairman said that the cooperation between Vietnam and Singapore has maintained a stable development momentum in recent times. The economic and trade sectors are a bright spot in the relationship between the two countries. Singapore is Vietnam’s fourth largest trade partner in ASEAN.

With about 3,800 projects and a total accumulated investment capital of more than 81 billion USD, Singapore currently ranks second out of 145 countries and territories investing in Vietnam. Notably, 18 Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Parks (VSIPs) in 13 provinces and cities of Vietnam are considered symbols of successful economic cooperation between the two countries. In addition, cooperation between the two countries in other fields such as education - training, labor, ... is also promoted.

Informing the people about some main features of the domestic situation, the National Assembly Chairman stated that although the country faced many difficulties and challenges in 2024, especially the heavy losses in human lives and property caused by storm No. 3 (international name: storm Yagi), the macro economy continued to be stable, inflation was controlled, and social security was ensured. GDP growth for the whole year was estimated at 7%, 15/15 socio-economic targets were met and exceeded. Foreign affairs were strengthened.

Vietnam's position and prestige in the international arena have been raised. The work of preventing and combating corruption, waste and negativity has been given attention, with no forbidden areas. Currently, the country is actively preparing conditions to successfully organize the 14th National Party Congress, which is also the beginning of a new era, an era of national growth.

Regarding the activities of the National Assembly, the Vietnamese National Assembly has just concluded its 8th session. This is a session with a large volume of legislative content, passing 18 laws, 21 resolutions and giving first opinions on 10 other draft laws. In addition, the National Assembly also discussed and decided on many important issues on socio-economy and state budget; approved the National Assembly's supreme supervision reports in 2024 and decided on personnel work under its authority.

The new point at this session is that the National Assembly has developed and promulgated a concise law, stipulating contents within its authority, ensuring the stability of the law, innovating the thinking of law-making in the direction of shifting from management to encouraging creativity, opening up and promoting resources for development, focusing on quickly removing bottlenecks, serving the socio-economic development of the country in the new era.

Appreciating the role of the Vietnamese community in Singapore, which is always united and oriented towards the country, and at the same time is an important bridge in promoting the friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Singapore, the National Assembly Chairman affirmed that the consistent policy of the Party and State is to always care for and look after the Vietnamese community abroad - an inseparable part of the Vietnamese nation.

Implementing Conclusion No. 12-KL/TW dated August 12, 2021 of the Politburo on the work of overseas Vietnamese in the new situation, the National Assembly and the Government are perfecting the system of related legal documents in the direction of creating favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community, including the second and third generations, to be more closely attached to their homeland, to return to the country to live, work and do business (such as visa exemption policy, Land Law, Housing Law, Real Estate Business Law, Identity Law, etc.).

According to the Law on Identity Cards (2023), all Vietnamese citizens are granted identity cards, regardless of whether they live in Vietnam or abroad. In the revised Land Law (2024), Vietnamese people residing abroad have had their land use rights expanded, and land policies for Vietnamese people residing abroad who are Vietnamese citizens are the same as those for individuals in the country.

Last April, the National Assembly Standing Committee agreed with the policy and content of amending and supplementing Decree 08/2019/ND-CP dated January 23, 2019, stipulating a number of regimes for members of Vietnamese agencies abroad to ensure better treatment for members of Vietnamese agencies abroad.

Praising the efforts of the Ambassador and the staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in Singapore for overcoming difficulties to successfully complete their assigned tasks, the National Assembly Chairman emphasized: The Party, State and National Assembly always pay attention, support and create the most favorable conditions for Vietnamese representative agencies abroad to operate effectively, contributing to protecting, building and developing the country.

In the coming time, the National Assembly Chairman requested the Ambassador and the staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in Singapore to continue to unite, join hands, and promptly remove difficulties and obstacles, creating favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community to live, study and work in Singapore. At the same time, they should perform well the assigned tasks, contributing to consolidating and deepening the Vietnam-Singapore Strategic Partnership, including the cooperation between the Vietnamese National Assembly and the Singaporean National Assembly, towards upgrading to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in the coming time.
