National Assembly Chairman holds online phone call with Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen

On behalf of the Vietnamese National Assembly, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue warmly congratulated Cambodia on successfully organizing the Senate election with the victory of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP); congratulated CPP President Hun Sen on being elected by the 5th Senate to the position of Senate President with high confidence; wished CPP President Hun Sen in his new position to lead Cambodia to further success in the cause of national construction and development, continuing to gain many new, greater and more comprehensive achievements. Vietnam always considers the achievements of the CPP, the State and the people of Cambodia as a great source of encouragement.

During the phone call, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue conveyed the best wishes of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and key leaders of Vietnam on the occasion of Cambodia's successful organization of the election and CPP President Hun Sen personally taking on new responsibilities.

President of the Cambodian Senate Hun Sen respectfully thanked General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue for the congratulations.

President of the Cambodian Senate Hun Sen affirmed that Cambodia's foreign policy towards Vietnam remains unchanged, and that Cambodia always prioritizes promoting relations with Vietnam. In addition, both the Cambodian House of Representatives and the Senate have promoted relations with the Vietnamese National Assembly, an effort to connect the two legislative bodies.

Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen shared with National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue his speech before the Senate, affirming that he will contribute to cooperation between the two Governments and National Assemblies; stating that in the context of unpredictable changes in the world and the region, the two Parties, two Governments, and two National Assemblies have a common denominator. Therefore, the two sides need to promote cooperation in all fields.

During the phone call, both sides agreed to continue to strengthen traditional friendship and cooperation with Cambodia, through the Party, National Assembly, Government and people-to-people exchanges, especially promoting meetings between high-ranking leaders of the two Parties, the 21st meeting of the Vietnam-Cambodia Joint Committee on Economic, Trade, Investment, Cultural, Scientific and Technical Cooperation, and the Border Provinces Conference. The President of the Cambodian Senate said that in the first three months of this year, the number of Vietnamese tourists to Cambodia ranked second (after Thailand). Tourism cooperation between the two sides is improving every year, showing that the lives of the people of the two countries are better after the pandemic.

The two sides will continue to maintain effective cooperation between the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense, Ministry of Public Security, and Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the Cambodian Ministry of National Defense, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation; and work together to promote cooperation in the border areas of the two countries into areas of peace and development. The President of the Cambodian Senate hopes that the two sides will cooperate to prevent drug trafficking.

The two leaders agreed that the two countries should closely coordinate to support Laos in successfully assuming the ASEAN Chairmanship and AIPA Chairmanship in 2024 and strengthening solidarity among ASEAN countries.

Both sides agreed that in the coming time, it is necessary to promote cooperation between the two legislative bodies, especially by increasing the organization of direct meetings between senior leaders of the two countries' parliaments more frequently in various appropriate forms.

National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue hopes that CPP President Hun Sen, in his capacity as President of the Senate, will continue to direct the Committees of the Cambodian Senate to coordinate well with the Committees of the Vietnamese National Assembly, in order to further promote the role of the legislative body in institution building, perfecting the law to create a legal framework and facilitate enhanced cooperation in all fields between the two countries; coordinate to review, promote and supervise the implementation of Agreements and Agreements signed between the Governments and Ministries and sectors of the two countries, so that these agreements are implemented synchronously, bringing about increasingly practical effectiveness and benefits, commensurate with the good political relationship between Vietnam and Cambodia; continue to support each other in terms of stance and viewpoints on international and regional issues of common interest to the two countries in parliamentary forums such as AIPA, IPU, APPF.

The National Assembly Chairman hopes that the President of the Cambodian Senate will urge the Cambodian Government to pay attention to resolving the work of demarcating and planting border markers on land between the two countries, especially the remaining 16% of the border.

Regarding the settlement of legal documents for people of Vietnamese origin, on behalf of the National Assembly and the Vietnamese people, the National Assembly Chairman respectfully thanked Senate President Hun Sen and the Cambodian Prime Minister for their great attention in the past; expressed the hope that this work would continue to receive attention, in order to create favorable conditions for people of Vietnamese origin to live, stabilize and legally long-term in Cambodia.

The two sides support and direct the active and effective implementation of the Cooperation Agreement signed in November 2022 between the Cambodian Senate Secretariat and the Office of the Vietnamese National Assembly; further enhance the effectiveness of young leader exchanges, youth exchanges, exchanges and cooperation between female parliamentarians, young parliamentarians, Vietnam-Cambodia and Cambodia-Vietnam friendship parliamentarians groups, and promote people-to-people exchanges so that the young generation and parliamentarians continue to promote the tradition of solidarity, friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance between the two countries and the two legislative bodies.

National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue respectfully invited CPP President Hun Sen to visit Vietnam in his new position as soon as possible in 2024. The Vietnamese National Assembly is also very pleased to welcome Vice Presidents and Committees of the Cambodian Senate to visit Vietnam.

Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen sincerely thanked the National Assembly Chairman and said he would pay an official visit to Vietnam at an appropriate time.
