At this time, people in the province are actively preparing conditions to enter the spring-summer aquaculture season, with the expectation of entering the new farming season with high economic efficiency.
People of Nga Tan commune (Nga Son) clean their ponds to prepare for the 2024 spring-summer crop.
According to the assessment of the provincial Department of Fisheries, in recent years, thanks to the implementation of many measures to prepare for production, the efficiency of aquaculture has been improved. In particular, the source of seeds is one of the prerequisites to bring high economic efficiency to the aquaculture sector. Every year, aquaculture facilities and households in the province have a demand for about 5 - 6 billion seeds, with the main types of seeds including: shrimp, clams, crabs, freshwater fish, and saltwater fish. Therefore, the province always invests in and encourages research facilities, crossbreeding and accessing quality aquatic seed sources. Mr. Pham Ba Thao, Director of Quang Chinh Agricultural and Aquatic Product Production, Farming, Processing and Service Cooperative (Quang Xuong), said: "The Cooperative has a farming area and has the capacity to produce more than 200 million white-leg shrimp seeds, 100,000 crab seeds to supply to cooperative members and farming facilities in Nong Cong, Quang Xuong, Hoang Hoa districts, Nghi Son town. In addition, the Cooperative also supplies seeds to the markets of Quang Binh and Ha Tinh provinces... To ensure quality seed sources, in addition to crossbreeding and nursing measures, the Cooperative also focuses on purebred seeds to ensure that the supplied seed sources are well adapted to the natural conditions and climate of the province.
Along with good preparation of seed sources and production materials, from the beginning of 2024, many aquaculture facilities in the province have focused on renovating ponds to prepare for the new production season - the spring-summer crop of 2024. Typically, Nga Son district, with more than 1,800 hectares of production, is considered one of the localities with a relatively large aquaculture area with high economic value farmed species, such as: black tiger shrimp, white-leg shrimp, sea bass, grouper, crab... With the goal of bringing the average production value in 2024 to 195 million VND/ha, in which aquaculture is identified as one of the "driving" sectors, from the first days of the new year, the agricultural sector and localities have guided people to implement solutions to prepare for the new crop. Along with that, after harvesting, the ponds are drained by the people to collect algae, waste, dredge and dry the bottom of the pond, use lime powder to clean the surrounding area to kill bacteria, kill impurities, eliminate pathogens, and clean the water environment.
Carefully checking the embankment system and drainage system at his shrimp pond, Mr. Tran Thanh Quang in village 3, Nga Tan commune, said: "To ensure the 2024 spring-summer shrimp farming crop is highly economically efficient, right before the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin, after harvesting all the off-season shrimp, my family drained the water and dried the pond to prepare for disinfection steps to limit pathogens in the new crop. Along with that, right after the Tet holidays, my family will renovate some ponds, contacting reputable seed suppliers to prepare for the spring-summer crop. It is expected that around March 2024, when the weather is favorable, we will plant the seeds, hoping to have a successful production season."
It is known that in Nga Tan commune, there are 254 hectares of aquaculture area with about 150 households participating in production. In addition to shrimp farming, households also raise crabs, fish, and clams. To continue to increase the production value of the aquaculture sector, in 2024, pond renovation will receive special attention and focus from aquaculture facilities. Along with that, pond owners have proactively contacted reputable facilities and addresses providing aquatic breeds and materials to improve the efficiency of the new production season.
According to the crop calendar, from March 2024, people will start to sow spring-summer aquaculture. In 2024, Thanh Hoa province plans to stock 19,200 hectares of aquatic products. However, with many unfavorable weather and climate forecasts, the province's professional agencies have promoted and supported people to proactively take many solutions to limit risks and improve economic efficiency. In particular, localities need to continue to maintain and develop concentrated aquaculture areas according to planning; encourage the development of a variety of suitable aquaculture species, focusing on species with high economic value and following market trends. Along with that, localities need to strengthen the management of aquatic seed production and breeding facilities; facilities importing, trading aquatic feed, and products for treating aquaculture environment.
