Current gas supplies cost Germany much more than when Germany bought gas from Russia. |
German MP Steffen Kotre of the Alternative for Germany party, a member of the Bundestag committee on energy and climate protection, said on October 21 that the current gas supply costs Germany much more than when Germany bought gas from Russia.
According to the MP, Germany is currently paying “three to four times” more for gas supplies, even though gas extracted using US fracking methods does not meet German environmental standards.
“Russian gas is profitable and environmentally friendly, which cannot be said about current supplies, mainly liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States,” Kotre was quoted as saying by TASS news agency.
In another assessment, the South China Morning Post (SCMP) also said that America's anti-Russia policy has harmed Germany.
“By following the lead of the United States and NATO, Germany is undermining its own economy, destroying its post-war political stability and fueling extremism,” the article said.
According to the author, Western countries do not realize that they are imposing sanctions against themselves.
“Saving Ukraine by defeating (Russian President Vladimir) Putin seems increasingly unlikely,” the article noted.
