On February 23, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son chaired the National Online Conference on adjusting the National Power Development Plan for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050 (referred to as Power Plan VIII). Attending the conference at the Quang Ninh bridge were Mr. Vu Van Dien, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, and leaders of relevant departments and branches.
The adjustment of the VIII Power Plan is implemented on the basis of closely following and concretizing the guidelines and policies of the Party and the State, the ability to meet the electricity demand for the country's socio-economic development and the people's daily needs in each period. According to the adjustment of the VIII Power Plan, the total power capacity serving domestic demand is over 183,000 to 236,000 MW, an increase of about 27,000 to 80,000 MW compared to the approved VIII Power Plan. Notably, the Project to adjust the nuclear power source reaches about 6,000-6,400 MW, operating in the period of 2030-2035.
Speaking at the conference, Mr. Vu Van Dien, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee emphasized that in recent times, Quang Ninh province has closely followed the direction of the Government and the Ministry of Industry and Trade, resolutely implementing projects according to the Planning and Implementation Plan of the Power Development Planning, contributing to ensuring national energy security.
To develop new power sources, Quang Ninh is accelerating the implementation of related work to start the LNG Power Project in 2025. He requested the Ministry of Industry and Trade and central ministries and branches to continue guiding localities, including Quang Ninh, in implementing short-term and long-term power development projects, ensuring the socio-economic development goals of the country in general and localities in particular.
Concluding the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son requested the Ministry of Industry and Trade to absorb the comments and contributions at the conference and promptly complete the Project to adjust the Power Plan VIII to report to the Government. In particular, he noted the suitability of the content of the Project to adjust the Power Plan VIII with the new commitments of the Government and the Prime Minister; at the same time, meeting the electricity demand for the country's socio-economic development and the people's daily needs in each period, with the goal of socio-economic development by 2030 reaching "double digits".
The Deputy Prime Minister also requested that the adjusted Plan must ensure the feasibility of the proposed power development plan, solutions for organizing the implementation of the plan, solutions on policy mechanisms and resources for implementation.
