On June 9, 1954, our armed forces, including Special Forces Company 11, Company 22, Company 64, attacked and destroyed the enemy company at Bo Bo stronghold. On July 17, 1954, the enemy gathered hundreds of troops and vehicles to launch Operation "Con Bao" to sweep the surrounding area and retake Bo Bo. On the night of July 18, the enemy gathered troops at Bo Bo.
At exactly 0:30 on July 19, 1954, our attack forces simultaneously attacked the Bo Bo stronghold. The enemy fought back fiercely, but the assault troops and guerrillas still advanced close to the enemy formation, using grenades and mortars to attack. The enemy's motor vehicle park was set on fire, the artillery ammunition dump exploded, and the French troops had no place to hide to fight back. After more than 3 hours of fighting, 150 enemies were killed, 293 were captured, including Colonel Camilet - Tiphelit, the commander of the operation.
Mr. Tran Uc - Chairman of Dien Ban Town People's Committee affirmed that the second Bo Bo victory on July 19, 1954 demonstrated the spirit of continuously attacking and destroying the enemy, the awareness of close coordination with the main battlefield and the inter-zone, pushing the enemy deeper into a passive and losing position on the Quang Nam - Da Nang battlefield. This victory was the crystallization of strength, indomitable fighting spirit and deep solidarity between the army and the people. To achieve that victory, not only the armed forces, hundreds of guerrillas, and frontline laborers overcame bullets and bullets, transported the wounded, collected spoils of war, and escorted prisoners of war, but many comrades and compatriots heroically sacrificed themselves before the decisive victory.
In December 2008, the Bo Bo Victory Monument was ranked as a provincial-level historical revolutionary relic by the Provincial People's Committee. Notably, on March 12, 2024, the Bo Bo Victory site was ranked as a national-level historical revolutionary relic by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Speaking at the event, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Van Dung emphasized that the 70th anniversary of the Bo Bo Victory is an opportunity for today's generation to review the heroic feats, full of sacrifices and hardships but extremely glorious of the army and people.
“70 years have passed, but the Bo Bo Victory is always a source of great pride for the Party Committee, government, army and people of Dien Ban town in particular and Quang Nam in general. The Bo Bo Victory will forever go down in the history of the homeland and country, glorifying the revolutionary tradition of the brave and resilient land of Quang Nam, contributing to educating the heroic and revolutionary tradition for future generations,” emphasized comrade Le Van Dung.
More than 49 years after the liberation of the homeland, along with the whole province, Dien Ban has continuously developed. The economy continues to grow strongly; many projects, urban areas, commercial and coastal services... have been formed; traffic infrastructure has been invested synchronously; the quality of people's lives has been increasingly improved.
According to Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Van Dung, in the trend of globalization and increasingly deep international integration, the tasks set for Dien Ban town are extremely enormous. Therefore, the Party Committee, government and people of Dien Ban town need to focus on promoting the achieved results, overcoming difficulties, and continuing to build a strong and comprehensive Dien Ban town.
Take advantage of available advantages, mobilize and effectively use all resources to invest in rapid and sustainable economic development. Shift the economic structure towards increasing the proportion of services and industry. Mobilize all resources to invest in synchronous and regionally connected transport infrastructure. Continue to exploit the cultural and historical potential of the land and people to find a separate path for the development of Dien Ban tourism.
In addition, it is necessary to focus on restoring and developing traditional craft villages, creating jobs for rural workers. Building advanced, exemplary new rural areas associated with rural ecotourism. Investing in completing urban infrastructure in the Eastern and coastal regions, connecting and forming a chain of interconnected urban areas with neighboring localities of Da Nang and Hoi An cities. Improving the quality of human resources to meet the requirements of integration and development.
In particular, localities need to pay attention to and implement social security policies well; fully and promptly implement policies for people with meritorious services to the country.
