Dr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, informed about the results of the 2024 high school graduation exam.
On July 18, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City announced information about the 2024 high school graduation exam. Accordingly, the high school graduation rate reached 99.68%. In addition to the literature and math subjects, no candidates scored 10 points (12 candidates scored 9.5 points in literature and 8 candidates scored 9.8 points in math, the highest score), then in the remaining 7 subjects, Ho Chi Minh City had a total of 425 candidates achieving the maximum score.
In addition, students Le Hoang, Phu Nhuan High School and Nguyen Hao Thien, Le Thanh Tong Secondary School, were both top students in group D with a total score of 27.85 points in math, literature, and English. At the same time, Nguyen Hao Thien was also top student in group A01 with a total score of 29.6 points in math, physics, and English. Top student in group B was student Tran Tri Duc, Le Thanh Tong Secondary School, with a total score of 29.35 points in math, chemistry, and biology.
In block C, student Le Quoc Thinh, Nam Viet Secondary and High School, achieved the title of valedictorian with a total score of 28.75 in the three subjects of literature, history and geography.
The analysis of the high school graduation exam scores also shows that Ho Chi Minh City has the highest percentage of students achieving the highest average score in English nationwide. This is the 8th year the city has maintained its leading position in this foreign language exam score. In addition, in this year's high school graduation exam, Ho Chi Minh City has the third highest percentage of students achieving the average score in math (6.99 points).
Ho Chi Minh City is known as the leading locality in the country in innovating teaching methods and student assessment, but its high school graduation exam results are not high, ranking 20th out of 63 provinces and cities.
Regarding this, Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, explained: "It is obvious that Ho Chi Minh City ranks 20th in the results of the high school graduation exam. Because Ho Chi Minh City has long innovated teaching methods, testing and evaluating students in the direction of developing students' qualities and abilities. Meanwhile, the high school graduation exam follows the old program and is for students nationwide. Therefore, not only this year but for many years, Ho Chi Minh City has not been the locality with the highest graduation exam results in the country. However, Ho Chi Minh City is still steadfast in the innovation as mentioned above".
In addition, the head of the Ho Chi Minh City education sector added that there is another reason, which is that Ho Chi Minh City students participate in the graduation exam with a focus. That is, they focus on the subjects that they will use to apply for university admission. If calculated by university admission block, the exam scores of Ho Chi Minh City students are very high.
Specifically, the high school graduation exam scores of Ho Chi Minh City students ranked first in the country in groups A, A1, B, C. In group D alone, Ho Chi Minh City students ranked 8th in the country.
