Murcia Mayor Jose Ballesta told reporters that nine people were confirmed dead. He had earlier said seven people had been found in the same area on the first floor where the fire broke out.

Outside the club, young people hugged each other in shock, waiting for news of the missing. “I have five family members inside. I don’t know where they are. And two friends,” said one man, who declined to be named.
Mayor Ballesta declared three days of mourning for the dead. Flags were flown at half-mast outside Murcia City Hall.
Video released by the Murcia fire department shows firefighters working to control the blaze inside the nightclub. It also shows the fire destroying part of the roof.
Ballesta said the fire started at around 6am local time on Sunday and has now been brought under control. He said emergency services were working to determine the cause of the fire. Four people were treated in hospital for smoke inhalation.
