According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, recently, the media has continuously reported on the discovery of slaughterhouses that violate the law on environmental protection and food safety during their operations; the discovery of illegal pig slaughterhouses, the seizure of tons of meat of unknown origin, the collection of dead and diseased pigs for slaughter and then selling them to processing facilities to make ham, sausages, and sausages; poultry entering and leaving wholesale markets without being quarantined according to regulations... The authorities have discovered and stopped many shipments of animal products that do not meet veterinary hygiene and food safety requirements for business...
As the Lunar New Year approaches, the demand for livestock and poultry meat is increasing, while in reality, there is lax management by local authorities and local veterinary agencies assigned to manage slaughterhouses and control slaughter, leading to a high risk of food safety, affecting the health of consumers, spreading animal diseases and polluting the environment.
To rectify and strengthen the management and control of animal slaughter to ensure the supply of quality and safe animal-based food before, during and after the epidemic. On the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2025, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development requests the People's Committees of provinces and cities, and veterinary agencies at all levels in localities to strictly implement the provisions of veterinary law.
Provinces and cities must strengthen inspections and checks, especially surprise inspections and checks on veterinary and food safety at animal slaughterhouses; strictly handle and stop the operations of unlicensed animal slaughterhouses, especially small-scale slaughterhouses that do not ensure veterinary hygiene and food safety conditions, slaughter animals that die from epidemics and are not controlled by veterinary staff according to regulations.
Develop and implement coordination regulations between the government and veterinary, medical, police, market management forces, etc. in managing animal slaughter activities; regularly exchange information and coordinate promptly when handling cases related to animal transportation, slaughter, and food safety for livestock and poultry meat.
Organize propaganda and mobilize organizations and individuals involved in business, trading, slaughtering, preliminary processing and processing to raise awareness and responsibility in complying with and practicing good slaughtering, preliminary processing and processing procedures to ensure veterinary hygiene and food safety; raise consumer awareness not to use animal products of unknown origin, not ensuring veterinary hygiene and food safety.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development recommends that provinces and cities implement a proactive food safety monitoring program for foods of animal origin; strengthen the capacity of the veterinary system at all levels according to the provisions of the Veterinary Law to ensure resources to effectively implement tasks of animal disease prevention and control, quarantine, and control of animal slaughter.
