TPO - Song Than Station in Binh Duong province is the longest freight station, going to China and to a third country. It is expected that this train station will be invested with about 180 billion VND to upgrade, meet the demand and become the largest freight station in the system of railway stations in Vietnam.

In the railway station planning, the functional sector proposed to invest in expanding Song Than station, one of two terminal stations in Binh Duong province (Song Than station and Di An station, Di An city, Binh Duong province), to exploit the international transit route. |
Of the two above mentioned terminal stations, Di An station is a passenger station and Song Than station is a cargo station. Song Than station is the largest cargo terminal in the South and the whole country, with the function of international transportation. |
Song Than Station will start transporting goods directly to China and to third countries from the end of September 2023. In early 2024, Song Than Station will launch the first shipment of 21 cars carrying 200 tons of agricultural products to China. |
The advantage of intermodal trains is that the procedures are very fast, the Automatic Data Processing System (VNACCS-VSIS) assigns green lane (exemption from detailed document check, exemption from actual goods check and automatic customs clearance). |
Recently, during a meeting between the leaders of the Ministry of Transport and the leaders of Binh Duong province, the two sides agreed to invest in expanding and upgrading An Binh station (Song Than station has two freight stations, Song Than and An Binh) to serve as a mixed passenger and freight hub for the new 1,435 mm double-gauge railway line and the existing 1,000 mm North-South railway line. |
Currently, Song Than station has two cargo yards, one with an area of 87,000 m2 inside the station and one with an area of 100,000 m2 outside the station (the total management area of Song Than station is about 200,000 m2). |
Previously, Binh Duong province proposed to the Vietnam Railway Authority and the Ministry of Transport to relocate and merge Di An station as a passenger station to An Binh station area because Di An station is small, the number of passengers arriving/departing is low and the traffic around the station area is dense, affecting the general traffic situation, as well as not exploiting the station effectively. |
According to plan, after renovation and upgrading, Song Than station will reach an exploitation capacity of over 2.5 million tons/year. |
It is expected that in the period of 2025 - 2030, after completing the projects, Song Than station's capacity will reach 3.5 million tons/year. Song Than will become the largest freight terminal in the Vietnam railway station system. |
To be more synchronous and improve capacity, serving international transport activities, Vietnam Railways Corporation proposed that the Ministry of Transport continue to establish the second phase investment project, with an estimated investment of about 180 billion VND, medium-term public investment capital. Accordingly, it will build and renovate the cargo yard, build synchronous items; build new operating, customs, border and police buildings. Particularly, An Binh cargo yard will upgrade and renovate loading and unloading routes, install additional loading and unloading routes; build new cold storage... |
Regarding the area used as a bonded warehouse to deploy international transit activities, Vietnam Railways Corporation proposed that Binh Duong province consider granting land for a functional warehouse. At the same time, it proposed that Binh Duong Customs Department open a location for inspection, supervision, and customs clearance of goods at Song Than international transit station. |
