1. Jowar cake
Ingredient:
- Jowar flour: 1 cup
- Warm water
- A pinch of salt
Method:
- Put jowar flour and a pinch of salt in a bowl and mix well.
- Add a little warm water and knead into a soft dough.
- Divide the dough into small balls.
- Use a rolling pin to roll each ball of dough into a flat, round cake.
- Heat a frying pan over medium heat and fry the cakes on both sides until golden brown.
- Eat hot with curry or vegetables.
2. Jowar salad
Ingredient:
- Cooked jowar seeds: 1 cup
- Chopped cucumber: 1/2 cup
- Chopped tomatoes: 1/2 cup
- Chopped onion: 1/4 cup
- Chopped bell pepper: 1/4 cup
- Lemon juice: 1 teaspoon
- Olive oil: 1 tablespoon
- Salt and pepper: to taste
- Fresh herbs (parsley or cilantro)
Method:
- Mix well jowar, cucumber, tomato, onion and bell pepper.
- Drizzle with lemon juice and olive oil.
- Season with salt and pepper, then mix well.

3. Jowar porridge
Ingredient:
- Jowar flour: 1/4 cup
- Water or milk: 2 cups
- Palm sugar or honey: 1 tablespoon
- Cardamom powder: a pinch
- Nuts and raisins
Method:
- Mix jowar powder with water or milk to form a smooth mixture.
- Cook over low heat, stirring constantly until mixture thickens.
- Add jaggery or honey and cardamom powder for sweetness.
- Cook for a few more minutes until fully cooked.
- Garnish with nuts and raisins before serving.
4. Jowar soup
Ingredient:
- Jowar seeds: 1/4 cup
- Chopped vegetables (carrots, celery, onions): 1 cup
- Garlic: 2 cloves, minced
- Vegetable broth: 3 cups
- Salt and pepper: to taste
- Olive oil: 1 tablespoon
- Fresh herbs (thyme or parsley): for garnish
Method:
- Soak jowar seeds for a few hours, then drain.
- Heat olive oil then saute garlic and onion until fragrant.
- Add chopped vegetables and stir fry for a few minutes.
- Pour in vegetable broth and bring to a boil.
