Taking a medical history, the patient said that the sweating and itching had increased over the past 4 years. The sweat was sticky and smelly. This condition greatly affected the patient's life and activities.
On March 25, Master - Doctor Nguyen Thi Quy (Traditional Medicine Dermatology and Aesthetics Clinic, University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City - Facility 3) said that after examination, the patient was diagnosed with heat stagnation in the heart meridian. The patient was given herbal decoctions and washes. After 1.5 months, the sweating decreased, the itching stopped, there was no more bad smell and slime, and the hair follicles were no longer enlarged.
"Sweating helps cool and maintain a stable body temperature when you are outdoors on a hot day, when exercising, or any time your body might overheat. Meanwhile, hyperhidrosis is a condition of sweating even when your body does not need to cool down, such as on a chilly day or when you are sitting in an environment with a temperature that most people find comfortable," Dr. Quy analyzed.
Excessive sweating in one area of the body or all over the body can cause anxiety, low self-esteem, difficulty at work and hindrance in daily activities.

Two types of hyperhidrosis
According to Dr. Quy, primary hyperhidrosis is the most common type, causing excessive sweating that usually develops in one or two areas such as the armpits, palms, soles, scalp, and face. Meanwhile, secondary hyperhidrosis often causes excessive sweating in most of the body.
Treatment is based on the type of hyperhidrosis, symptoms, affected body areas, and patient preferences. Treatments include topical medications, botox injections, sweat-control patches, oral medications, and surgery. Each has its own advantages, disadvantages, and side effects, so treatment will be individualized for each patient.
According to traditional medicine, sweat is considered as the evaporation of yang energy from body fluids, especially blood, and escapes through the pores. Normally, sweat plays a role in regulating the body's balance through the rhythmic opening and closing of pores and nourishing the skin. Sweating can be a way for the body to eliminate pathogens (the method of sweating), however, excessive sweating can deplete the body's body fluids and blood.
The condition of sweating a lot all over the body often makes the patient feel cold, have difficulty breathing, feel tired and susceptible to colds... There are many clinical symptoms such as lung qi deficiency, yin deficiency with excess fire, heart blood deficiency , heat stagnation...
For examination of abnormal sweating, traditional medicine doctors pay attention to location (specific area or whole body), time (daytime, nighttime or at certain hours), nature (cold or warm, color and smell), intensity as well as other accompanying symptoms to provide personalized treatment based on each patient's clinical situation.
