Vietnam women's team is active
In 2024, the Vietnamese women's team will not have to compete in official tournaments, but will have the important task of consolidating its forces to prepare for 2025 with the 33rd SEA Games, the Southeast Asian Women's Football Championship and the 2026 Asian qualifiers.
Vietnamese women's football will receive more investment to participate in the World Cup more times.
In the context of needing to rejuvenate the Vietnamese women's team, while the next generation of young players have not had many opportunities to compete internationally. On the other hand, the stature of female players is still limited compared to some countries in the region. Therefore, in 2024, VFF continued to invest in the Vietnamese women's team to train and compete in friendly matches abroad, and participate in international invitational tournaments held in China.
In addition, the Vietnamese women's youth teams also have many opportunities to compete. The U.20 women's team participated in the final round of the U.20 Asian Women's Football Championship, although they did not make it past the group stage, but this tournament provided young players with more opportunities to compete, improve their skills and gain experience. The U.15/U.17 teams received long-term training. The U.16 women's team was given the opportunity to participate in a friendly tournament in Türkiye.
Investing in women's national championships
With the current stable number of 08 teams participating in the National Women's Football Championship, each round of matches must have 2-3 stadiums to ensure the organization of the tournament in centralized competition conditions. Finding a locality that can meet the number of stadiums, training grounds and ensure the quality of the grass is very difficult, but VFF has made efforts to ensure the tournament is organized as planned.
The National Women's Championship gradually improves in quality with more sponsors.
Despite the difficulties, the organization of the women's football tournament has had many positive changes: Player registration on the FIFA Connect system was carried out quickly and made it easier for the player qualification department to review the records; security, medical and logistics work of the tournament were carefully prepared, contributing to the safety of the matches; communication work for the women's football tournaments in recent times has been improved, the matches were broadcast live as well as streamed online on social networking platforms...
The U.16 women's tournament has increased by 1 team compared to the 2023 season. The U.19 women's tournament has 9 registered teams, showing that localities have been focusing on investing in youth training to develop in a stable and sustainable direction, creating internal resources to develop local women's football.
It is worth mentioning that Thai Son Bac Electrical Equipment Trading Company Limited will continue to be associated with the National Women's Football Championship until 2026. This is the brand with the longest association with football in general, and women's football in particular, since 2011. The National U19 Women's Football Championship has Acecook as its sponsor for the first time... All of this is proof of VFF's efforts to invest in improving the quality of women's football.
Vietnamese women's football on the international stage
With the achievements of Vietnamese women's football, Vietnam was selected by AFC to be on the list of 8 National Federations with direct participation in the AFC Women's Champion League 2024 from October 6 to 12, 2024. Ho Chi Minh City Women's Club, representing Vietnam, participated in the tournament and excellently won the right to enter the quarter-finals of the tournament.
Also within the framework of activities related to women's football, VFF is one of 5 Asian regional federations selected by UEFA to participate in the UEFA/AFC Project to support the development of women's football for a period of 03 years (from 2024-2027). From November 6-8, a UEFA working delegation came to Vietnam to work directly to effectively implement the project. Previously, in August and September 2024, AFC/UEFA and VFF coordinated to organize a number of seminars with important contents such as: Developing grassroots football, Developing communication and image for women's football; Developing clubs and national championships, developing national teams, Developing human resources for women's football... with the participation of relevant professional departments of VFF and partners.
Ho Chi Minh City Women's Club plays well in continental tournament
To continue improving the quality of national women's football tournaments, the Women's Football Committee and the functional committees discussed the contents of the Vietnam Football Regulations. The committee members discussed and reached some consensus on the Vietnam Football Regulations: Number of foreign players competing in women's football tournaments; new regulations on women's player contracts, training roadmap and upgrading of coaching certificates in women's football... Researching plans to increase the number of matches for players to gain experience through building women's football movements in the provinces, organizing annual local tournaments to develop the movement, and finding human resources. Arranging the best training and competition conditions for national women's teams. In addition, it is also necessary to pay attention to material conditions (food, accommodation, salary, ...), as well as the spiritual life of female players.
In addition, VFF has planned to coordinate with the Ministry of Education and Training and other units to organize more national youth women's football tournaments for the U.12-13 age group to promote the movement and find more sources of athletes for the future. Send experts or establish a monitoring team to discover and nurture young players in grassroots football activities such as Phu Dong Sports Festival, community football classes, etc.
