Dang Van Lam: Desire to show his mettle

Despite being underestimated, Van Lam and his teammates created an equal match when competing with the top team of V-League. Throughout the match, the Vietnamese-American goalkeeper repeatedly showed off his impressive and spectacular saves, specifically 2 situations of flying to block dangerous shots from Minh Trong and Viet Cuong.

Since moving down to the First Division, Dang Van Lam's chances of playing for the Vietnamese national team have gradually narrowed. Although Ninh Binh has a superior level and performance in the First Division, even getting close to a ticket to the V-League, Van Lam's contributions seem not to be enough to help him surpass his colleagues in scoring points with coach Kim Sang-sik.

Vietnamese football has recently seen the emergence of many excellent goalkeepers with outstanding physique, strength, youth and enthusiasm. In that context, Van Lam is no longer the number 1 choice in the Vietnamese national team's goal as he is about to turn 32.

Commenting on his student's professional level, Coach Nguyen Viet Thang affirmed that Van Lam is one of the players who maintains a stable performance, knows how to overcome challenges and difficulties in training as well as in competition. However, choosing a goalkeeper for the Vietnam team is the responsibility of Coach Kim Sang-sik, no one can do this job for him. Coach Nguyen Viet Thang assessed that his Korean colleague has been doing a good job in continuously helping the Vietnam team win.

Not giving up his desire to contribute to the national flag, Dang Van Lam is trying to complete the goal of helping Ninh Binh participate in the V-League next season to rekindle the hope of wearing the Vietnamese national team jersey. Van Lam used to be the first choice in the starting lineup of the Vietnamese national team, contributing greatly to the success of Vietnamese football during the time coach Park Hang-seo led. However, the appearance of Vietnamese-American goalkeeper Nguyen Filip has created fierce competition for the number 1 position in the Vietnamese national team's goal, from the time of coach Troussier to the current Kim Sang-sik.

Although no longer the first choice for the national team, Van Lam still maintains impressive form for the Hoa Lu ancient capital team in the First Division. He is a solid support for the defense, contributing significantly to the 13-game winning streak since the beginning of the season. Ninh Binh Club's only defeat so far is the loss to Binh Duong in the quarter-finals of the 2024-2025 National Cup.

Van Lam's decision to move to the First Division shows the courage and ambition of this goalkeeper. He is not afraid of challenges and is willing to accept difficulties to prove his worth. Van Lam always shows a high level of professionalism, trains hard and plays with all his heart, becoming an example for many colleagues.

Although born and raised in Russia, Van Lam has always had a special love for Vietnamese football. He is always proud to wear the national team shirt, dedicating himself to the flag and colors of his homeland. He also knows how to adapt to many different playing styles and tactics from many teams.
