On December 16, in Hanoi, the People's Army Newspaper (QĐND) summarized and awarded the prizes for the Soldier Portrait photo contest. This is a meaningful activity to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army, the 35th anniversary of the National Defense Day and the 80th anniversary of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army.
Major General Doan Xuan Bo, Editor-in-Chief of the People's Army Newspaper, said that after 1 year of launching, the contest received more than 3,300 entries from 450 participating authors. The entries are rich in artistry, rich in content, strong in structure, and innovative in nature, containing the values of truth, goodness, and beauty about soldiers.
After 5 rounds of judging, the Organizing Committee decided to select 31 outstanding works to award prizes. For single photos, the Organizing Committee awarded 1 A prize, 2 B prizes, 5 C prizes and 10 Encouragement prizes; for photo series, awarded 1 A prize, 2 B prizes, 5 C prizes and 5 Encouragement prizes.
The image of General Phan Van Giang, Politburo member, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Minister of National Defense, in the arms of the people, captured by photojournalist Nguyen Manh Quan at the 70th Anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory in May 2024, brought many emotions to viewers.
Sharing his feelings when winning the A prize in the single photo category with the work The General in the arms of the people , author Nguyen Manh Quan said: “I took the photo when Minister Phan Van Giang came to offer incense to commemorate the heroic martyrs at the A1 National Martyrs Cemetery. Many people stood waiting to shake hands, showing their affection for the highest commander of the army. The photo shows the people's trust in the army, showing that our army comes from the people, closely connected with the people.”
Sharing about the photo series "Soldiers racing against time to search for missing victims in Lang Nu village (Lao Cai), which won the A prize in the photo series category, reporter Pham Bang (Lao Cai Newspaper) said: "As a reporter in a mountainous area where landslides, flash floods and flash floods often occur, I have many times followed the army to help people in disaster areas.
However, I have never been as haunted as the landslide in Lang Nu, when the coffins carrying the unfortunate victims were carried out of the scene by soldiers. Eating and living together with the soldiers to help the people in Lang Nu, I realized how deep the relationship between the army and the people is.
