Diem was identified as the suspect who broke into a gold shop in Ea Pok town, Cu M'gar district on December 8, 2023, stealing dozens of taels of gold and silver of various types.
Initial information said that at around 7:40 p.m. on December 8, 2023, Mr. Vo Van V. (54 years old, residing in Ea Pok town, Cu M'gar district) went to the police to report that a thief had broken into his family's gold shop and stolen dozens of gold and silver bars of various types.
Upon receiving the information, the Criminal Police Department and the Criminal Techniques Department of the Provincial Police coordinated with the Cu M'gar District Police to quickly examine the scene, collect evidence, and organize an investigation.
During the investigation of the scene, it was discovered that the gold shop door was unlocked from the outside, the jewelry display case had its glass front broken, and some jewelry was scattered on the floor. …
After a month of establishing a special case, using many professional measures, the police force identified the suspect who caused the above theft as Nguyen Ngoc Diem.
During the hot pursuit of the subject, the police force encountered many difficulties because Diem continuously went to many provinces and cities such as: Hanoi, Hai Phong, Thai Binh, Vinh Phuc, Dong Nai to change his residence.
At around 11pm on January 12, a working group from the Criminal Police Department of Dak Lak Province Police raided a rented room in Trang Dai Ward, Bien Hoa City (Dong Nai Province) and arrested Diem.
Searching the rented room, the police seized about 7 taels of gold and many other evidences related to the case.
At the police station, Diem confessed that after committing the theft, he took a bus to the northern provinces. Then, he went to Thai Binh province to sell part of the gold and spent more than 150 million VND.
Diem buried part of the gold and silver behind her mother's garden in Me Linh commune, Dong Hung district, Thai Binh province, and brought the rest to Dong Nai province to wait for a buyer. …
From Diem's testimony, the Criminal Police Department of the Provincial Police sent a working group to Thai Binh province to execute an emergency search warrant at Diem's mother's house.
After digging the area behind the house, the police seized a plastic bag containing about 10 silver bars and about 6 gold bars of various types.
During the investigation, the police determined that Diem was a professional gold thief who stole the key first, then printed a copy of the key, returned it to its original place, and waited for the opportunity to steal it.
With that trick, Diem committed 3 gold shop robberies in Hanoi and was sentenced to 14 years in prison by the City People's Court, and was released in March 2023.
