People's Army Newspaper organizes photo contest "Portrait of a soldier"

The contest aims to encourage professional and amateur photographers, cadres and soldiers who love photography to capture beautiful moments of Uncle Ho's soldiers in the new era.

Thereby spreading more widely the image and noble qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers in social life; affirming the sacrifices, dedication and contributions of cadres, soldiers of the entire army and the militia and self-defense forces, and reserve mobilization forces to the cause of building and defending the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, journalist Ngo Anh Thu - Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the People's Army Newspaper shared: In the history of Vietnam's revolutionary press, photojournalists have contributed to creating "golden" photo histories, preserving important events and milestones of the country and the Vietnamese people. In particular, the image of Uncle Ho's soldiers associated with glorious feats of arms, becoming a source of pride, entering the memory of the nation thanks to the courage, enthusiasm and talent of generations of photographers who contributed when they fought on the front lines such as: Nguyen Ba Khoan, Dai, Nguyen Dinh Uu, Dinh Ngoc Thong, Chu Chi Thanh, Doan Cong Tinh, Luong Nghia Dung, Tran Binh Khuol, Vo An Khanh, Dinh Quang Thanh, Duong Thanh Phong, Vuong Khanh Hong, Hua Thanh Kiem, Lam Tan Tai, Nguyen Dang, Ngo Minh Nhat, Nguyen Xuan At...

The spread and influence of wartime photos, with the image of soldiers, was commented by General Vo Nguyen Giap - the Elder Brother of our Army: "...Photography is so authentic, accurately remembered and strangely evocative. There are things that we can forget with time, but when looking at the photos, we remember each soldier, each battle, each directive of the Central Committee and Uncle Ho...".

“Continuing the creative flow of images about “Uncle Ho’s soldiers”, aiming to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People’s Army; the 35th anniversary of the National Defense Day and the 80th anniversary of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army. With the consent of the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of National Defense and the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army, the People’s Army Newspaper organizes the launching of the Photo Contest on the People’s Army Electronic Newspaper with the theme: “Portrait of a soldier” - Journalist Ngo Anh Thu emphasized.

The contest aims to encourage authors to continue creating more new, artistic and content-rich photographic works, capturing impressive, multi-dimensional moments, containing the values ​​of truth, goodness and beauty of soldiers in peacetime, in training, combat readiness; in cultural and sports activities, production and labor, mass mobilization work, participation in natural disaster prevention, search and rescue, and performing international duties.

Also at the Ceremony, journalist Le Ngoc Long - Deputy Editor-in-Chief, Chairman of the People's Army Newspaper Journalists Association, Head of the Organizing Committee introduced the contest rules. Accordingly, the content of the photo contest focuses on reflecting the activities of officers and soldiers of the entire army, militia and self-defense forces and reserve mobilization forces in performing training tasks, combat readiness, culture, sports, production labor, helping people prevent and avoid natural disasters, floods, forest fires, "Repaying gratitude" activities, foreign affairs activities...

The organizers hope that the entries, in addition to being selected for publication in the People's Army Electronic Newspaper, the image of "Portrait of a Soldier" will be more widely available and spread.

Regarding the contest format: There are 02 categories, color photos or black and white photos for both categories. Single photo (Each photo is a work) and photo series (Each photo series is a work, no more than 06 photos in 01 photo series, with the same theme, content and author). Authors submit photos in digital format directly in the "Portrait of a Soldier" Photo Contest section on the Electronic People's Army Newspaper at www.qdnd.vn.

Awards: There are 02 award systems for 02 categories (single photo and photo series). Each category includes 18 awards, including:

01 first prize, worth 15 million VND. 02 second prizes, worth 10 million VND each. 05 third prizes, worth 5 million VND each. 10 consolation prizes, worth 3 million VND each.

+ For photo sets

01 first prize, worth 15 million VND. 02 second prizes, worth 10 million VND each. 05 third prizes, worth 5 million VND each. 10 consolation prizes, worth 3 million VND each.

The Organizing Committee will review and select works of good quality, meeting the requirements and regulations of the contest to be published on the Electronic Newspaper of the People's Army in the "Portrait of a Soldier" Photo Contest section.

Eligible works for the contest are those selected by the Organizing Committee to be published in the Electronic People's Army Newspaper.

The time to organize the Summary and Award Ceremony is on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22, 1944 - December 22, 2024) and the 35th anniversary of the National Defense Day (December 22, 1989 - December 22, 2024).

The Organizing Committee hopes that the entries, in addition to being selected for publication in the Electronic People's Army Newspaper, the image of "Portrait of a Soldier" will be widely present and spread on cyberspace, in line with the reception of today's public, especially the youth. Thereby, cadres, people and international friends will better understand the tasks of cadres and soldiers of the Vietnam People's Army today; share, accompany, encourage and help our Army to excellently complete all assigned tasks, contributing to building a national defense for all people in the new situation.

How to submit photos to the Photo Contest "Portrait of a Soldier"

STEP 1: Access the People's Army Newspaper online at www.qdnd.vn.

STEP 2: Go to the category; Photo contest "Portrait of a soldier" Click on the registration section above the banner to join the contest.

STEP 3: Fill in author information: Authors fill in all registration information, note that the information must be accurate so that the Organizing Committee can contact and pay for photo fees, prizes and related issues during the author's participation in the contest. After filling in all information, click the register button to complete.

Step 4: Submit photos to the contest. Each author has the right to participate in both single and series categories and there is no limit to the number of entries. However, single photos cannot be duplicated with series.

How to submit a single photo: Authors go to the single photo section, select a photo, enter the name of the work, then click the "Upload photo" button.

How to submit a photo series: The author goes to the photo series section, fills in the name of the work; the caption introduces the photo series in no more than 100 words. Then click “Continue”, upload photos 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 in turn. For photo series, if there is a mockup of the photo series, priority will be given.
