Musician Lu Nhat Vu is one of the representative names of Vietnamese music, especially revolutionary lyrical music and Southern folk music. He is not only a talented musician but also a music researcher with many important contributions to preserving and promoting folk cultural values.
Musician Lu Nhat Vu's real name is Le Van Gat, born on April 13, 1936 in Thu Dau Mot, Binh Duong. He was a former member of the Secretariat of the Vietnam Musicians Association, term III, Deputy General Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Music Association (1981), and former Director of the Vietnam Institute of Culture and Arts in Ho Chi Minh City .
He is the composer of many famous musical works: Please rest assured, Mom, The Saigon girl goes to carry ammunition, By the statue of Uncle Ho, The sound of gongs crossing the waterfall, Afternoon on the Meo village, Song of the Southern Land, Song of the reclaimer,... His music is imbued with the Southern folk music, deeply expressing the love for the homeland, country, and people of the Southern people.
Musician Lu Nhat Vu has a huge research treasure of Southern folk songs published with a number of authors: Le Giang (his wife), Nguyen Dong Nai, Nguyen Van Hoa, Tu Nguyen Thach... It can be seen that the passionate love for music of musician Lu Nhat Vu comes from his many years of ups and downs with the history of the nation. During the resistance war against the US, he participated in artistic activities in the war zone, composing many songs to encourage the fighting spirit of our army and people. Those years have fostered in him a deep love for national music, skillfully combining folk materials into revolutionary compositions to write songs that have stood the test of time. He created a unique style in Vietnamese music with many songs with Southern folk melodies, both simple and rustic but containing deep and heroic emotions.
Musician Lu Nhat Vu was awarded the 45-year Party membership badge, the State Prize for Literature and Arts (1st batch, 2001), the First Class Anti-American Medal, the First Class Labor Medal... and was recognized by the Vietnam Book of Records Center: The musician has many works in collecting and researching Vietnamese folk songs. |
