According to AppleInsider , Apple has suddenly withdrawn its $23 million lawsuit against recycling company Geep Canada after 5 years of pursuing legal action.

GEEP Canada, now owned by Quantum Lifecycle Partners, is the recycling partner for Apple devices. From January 2015 to December 2017, Apple sent more than 500,000 iPhones , more than 25,000 iPads, and 19,000 Apple Watches to GEEP for recycling.

However, when Apple audited the device, it found that 18% of those devices were still connected to the cellular network. This figure does not include WiFi-only devices like the GPS version of the Apple Watch, so the actual number could be even higher.

Apple then tracked the serial numbers of the devices sent to Geep and compared them to devices activated on cellular networks in China. From there, Apple alleges Geep resold at least 103,845 iPhones, iPads, and Apple Watches.

In January 2020, the iPhone manufacturer officially filed a lawsuit against Geep to return all the money from the sale of the device and compensate 22.7 million USD .

However, the recycling company said it did nothing wrong, and blamed the incident on employees who fraudulently took the devices away. Geep said it would force its three employees to pay compensation for the sale of the devices and damages caused by Apple's termination of the contract.

Filing a lawsuit appears to be the only legal action Apple has taken. AppleInsider revealed that until 2024, there has been no trial or further legal action from Apple.
