Indian media reported that there have been more than 70 bomb threats targeting many airlines in the country in the past week, causing panic among passengers and disrupting flights.

India’s civil aviation authorities have not yet disclosed how many threats they have received in the past week, but the Times of India and News18 television reported that there have been more than 70 threats against both domestic and international flights since October 13. On October 19 alone, at least 30 fake threats were reported against multiple airlines.
All flights landed safely, but a series of threats forced some planes to divert to Canada and Germany, and the UK and Singapore even sent fighter jets to escort some Indian commercial planes over their airspace. The diversions and delays have had a significant impact on airlines’ schedules and costs.
The Indian government and civil aviation authorities have warned of “very strict action”. At least one minor has been arrested in India, but incidents continue.
Indian Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu said authorities would identify and prosecute all those responsible for disrupting aviation operations.
