Mr. Bui Van Khanh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Hoa Binh province, has just signed a decision to declare an emergency situation regarding natural disasters causing landslides in Rang hamlet, Cao Son commune (Da Bac district) and Rai hamlet, Tuan Dao commune (Lac Son district).

Specifically, due to the impact of heavy rain, cracks and loud explosions were caused from Ao Ech hill behind Rang hamlet (Cao Son commune), with a very high risk of landslides down to the residential area.

At the largest location, about 200m high, a slide of about 500m long appeared, with a huge amount of landslides and rocks. Local authorities evacuated 30 households with 126 people to safety.

In Rai hamlet (Tuan Dao commune, Lac Son), after the circulation of storm No. 3 with many long periods of heavy rain, many cracks and subsidence appeared. There were many cracks and subsidence from 1-3m long, 2-3m deep and about 800m long. In addition, there were many small cracks, affecting an area of about 7ha.

The subsidence has affected 111 households with 539 people in Rai hamlet. Of which, the seriously affected area had to urgently evacuate 60 households with 278 people out of the danger zone.

Many households have cracked houses, collapsed foundations, damaged houses and landslides at any time. It is estimated that the amount of rock and soil that could collapse is about 7-8 million cubic meters.

Up to now, the cracks and subsidence points are still continuing to grow wider and there is a risk of widespread landslides when it rains, causing the soil and rocks to become saturated.

Faced with the above situation, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Hoa Binh province directed the People's Committees of Lac Son and Da Bac districts to continue directing functional agencies and local authorities to stabilize housing at the evacuation site and support people to ensure essential living conditions.

The forces regularly check and monitor landslide developments, stretch ropes and put up warning signs, and resolutely do not allow people to return to their old residences until safety is ensured.

Previously, Son La province also announced a natural disaster emergency to respond to heavy rain and landslides in Muong La district (in Muong Bu, Ngoc Chien, Pi Toong, Ta Bu communes) and Bac Yen district (in Ngam village, Song Pe commune).

In particular, in Muong La district, heavy rain and landslides left one person missing, about 90 houses damaged, and infrastructure and agricultural production seriously damaged.
