On the morning of November 30, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) organized the Career Journey and Job Connection Festival 2024 with many diverse activities, attracting nearly 8,000 students from inside and outside VNU. The festival is organized with the aim of helping students orient and prepare necessary career skills, enhance competitive advantages when participating in the labor market; keep up with employment trends and human resource recruitment requirements of organizations and businesses.
This is also an opportunity for new graduates, students preparing to graduate, students looking for jobs; to search and exchange necessary information about career opportunities, recruitment processes and conditions of organizations and businesses.
At the festival, students have the opportunity to interact, demonstrate their abilities, gain practical experience in working environments and seek job opportunities in their majors. From there, students have the opportunity to learn from experienced alumni; organizations and businesses answer questions, and guide them on practical issues to prepare and strengthen their solid foundation for graduation.
The Anh, a senior student at the University of Technology (VNU), said he came to the fair with the hope of finding job opportunities in the field of information technology at banks participating in the event. The Anh informed that although employers could not make immediate decisions on admission, the information exchanges between the two sides helped students make career orientations after graduation. "Employers look for a lot of soft skills from candidates. Currently, I only meet the requirements for foreign languages, teamwork, and working with artificial intelligence. But I almost do not have skills such as being able to withstand work pressure and making decisions to solve problems," The Anh said.
Thu Hien, a third-year student at the University of Foreign Languages, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, was concerned when visiting the recruiters’ booths that foreign languages were only a soft skill requirement for candidates. Recruiters required candidates to have other majors relevant to the recruitment field. Therefore, Thu Hien planned to register for a second degree to meet future job requirements.
Mr. Nguyen Tien Thanh, recruitment director of Sun Group, believes that to be successful in any field, the most important thing is to accumulate experience and improve yourself. That is, you must love, be passionate, and focus your mind, intellect, and energy on the field you want to work in.
Students also wonder about the recruitment requirements of employers for each group of first, second, third or final year students. Mr. Thanh said that the unit has internship positions for first and second year students. The important thing is to give students opportunities. The important thing is how students express themselves.
Some employers say the problem is what students and candidates can do for the company. The company is not a place for students to practice and intern.
On this occasion, VNU leaders and sponsor representatives also awarded scholarships to students from the “SHB Financial Support Package – Nurturing Talents”. Each scholarship is worth 30 million VND/student/school year for 10 top students in the 2024 entrance exam, students with especially difficult circumstances who have excelled in their studies; 30 scholarships for students with difficult circumstances due to their families being affected and suffering damage from storm No. 3, worth 10 million VND/student.
